You must be referring to the US News ratings, which are very sensitive to minor variations in the percentage of students taking and passing AP/IB exams. TJ will always be #1, but in any given year Langley, McLean, Madison, Oakton, Woodson or George Mason could be #2. |
| Langley is always the top from a scores point, which is probably what OP is referring to. McLean is almost always second, along with Madison, Oakton, Mason. |
Which is why I say you can't deife a top two easily. Top five (FCPS) or top 6 is easy. |
| TJ doesn't count because it's a test-in school, so Langley followed by McLean. |
Nah. Can't differentiate between Langly, McLean, Madison, Oakton and Woodson. |
| Honestly, past TJ there aren't any material differences between the HSs aside from materialism. They are all good schools. |
|
Madison girls swimming and McLean girls gymnastics just won state championships - way to go, ladies!
And Langley boys soccer is ranked #1 in the NATION heading into the spring season! |
| Langley high is not that great anymore McLean 22101 took the lead in housing prices over great falls and 22102 because if an exodus out of that far off area. |
This All fcps schools have the same curriculum. The only real difference is the ses of the student body. Sat scores correlate with household incomes. Period. Langley and McLean are full of VERY rich people. Their kids have incredible advantages from the very beginning. There are very few fcps schools that normal families would NOT feel comfortable sending their children to. Honestly, you buy the best house you can in a place you can reasonably afford. We live in Chantilly pyramid. All 3 levels of public schools are in our neighborhood and well regarded. My child has access to the same curriculum and fcps resources as all other children in our county. We aren't rich, but we do ok and live a decent suburban life. We have a roof over our heads, food on the table and clothes on our backs. More than many can claim. We never will be able to afford langley or McLean, and that's just fact. I don't think it is as important in this county to be at the "top" school. Just being in fcps already puts your child at an advantage vs lots of other school Systems in the country. |
| Chantilly is good, but it's huge. Another thing that differentiates the top five neighborhood schools is their smaller size compared to the schools with over 2500 kids, although Oakton is inching up there. |
New schools Redistricting There are ways to fix it |
| I enjoyed watching my children crush it in a huge school. Bring on the competition. Cream rises to the top baby! |
Asking people what the top two pyramids are isn't a put-down of other good pyramids. By most of the metrics used to assess school performance and quality, Langley and McLean are the top two in VA. That doesn't mean people should exhaust themselves financially to buy into them or that they are the best environment for every student. |
Um, ok!
|
Chantilly and West Springfield are very much up there. |
