| What are considered the top two? I.e. which high schools do they feed into? |
|
Define top?
Highest SATs? Pressure cooker or well rounded? Best sports? Most opportunity for kids to enjoy activities including freshmen or so competitive that many kids get shut out? Lots of things can determine "top." |
Aww come on. Don't make me beg for it. |
| TJ, obviously. |
| TJ and Langley |
| Alexandria public schools. Can't go wrong. Seriously. |
TJ is not a cluster. |
It's a really big cluster. |
"Top" or "best" is subjective. Langley and McLean HS are the two neighborhood high schools in NoVa that historically have the highest SAT scores. Madison is up there, too. |
| With the exception of MS we have had a good expereince with our McLean HS "cluster". |
|
| It is always Langley and McLean, but they are so expensive to buy into. |
| Langley HS and McLean HS. |

If you said 5, it would be easy. The top 5 clusters are more or less interchangeable. And what is top depends on the metric.
They are Langley McLean Madison Oakton Woodson Marshall might be in it also Why are these the top 5? Well, 80% of the students are from UMCish backgrounds (UMC by national standards, not dcum). There is little poverty, and fewer distractions. Each of these schools have their own culture. Woodson tends to be more of a pressure cooker, like a TJ light. Oakton -- not really sure Madison -- very activity focused with a lot of school and community pride; mostly inclusive. (we live in madison district so I am most familiar with it). McLean -- Not sure Langley -- I think of it as preppy: full of rich kids. |
