Not really.

We have loved the George Mason HS pyramid in FCC.

Langley and McLean.

We love McLean and have friends equally as happy at Langley.

Going by school digger rating:

Thomas Jefferson High
Rank: 1st of 320
Students: 1,820

Marshall High
Rank: 10th of 320
Students: 1,939

McLean High
Rank: 11th of 320
Students: 2,072

Langley High
Rank: 12th of 320
Students: 2,012

West Springfield High
Rank: 13th of 320
Students: 2,272

Woodson High
Fairfax
Public 9-12
Rank: 15th of 320
Students: 2,378

Looks like TJ and Marshall high are the best schools and ahead of Mclean and Langley high school

OP, assuming by NoVa you mean more than just FCPS and assuming you mean academically, then George Mason is one of the top.

SATs, US News and Washington Post tell a different story.

These higher rated schools are more a reflection of the demographics than quality programs and teaching. It's not just one or the other, obviously, but when you refer to a "top pyramid" you are mostly referring to schools where the most advantaged kids attend.

Not including magnet schools, of course. I doubt mediocre or lower quality teaching is tolerated at those like they are at most public schools.

So it depends on the criteria being used.

Anonymous wrote:If you said 5, it would be easy. The top 5 clusters are more or less interchangeable. And what is top depends on the metric.

They are

Langley
McLean
Madison
Oakton
Woodson

Marshall might be in it also

Why are these the top 5? Well, 80% of the students are from UMCish backgrounds (UMC by national standards, not dcum). There is little poverty, and fewer distractions.

Each of these schools have their own culture.

Woodson tends to be more of a pressure cooker, like a TJ light.
Oakton -- not really sure
Madison -- very activity focused with a lot of school and community pride; mostly inclusive. (we live in madison district so I am most familiar with it).
McLean -- Not sure
Langley -- I think of it as preppy: full of rich kids.

Re: Madison - don't forget about those anti-Semites!

Top 5 in FCPS - Langley/McLean/Madison/Oakton/Woodson

And George Mason in FCC is on par with Madison/Oakton/Woodson.

Funny how they all have different rankings. Just shows how arbitrary these lists are. Maybe OP should look at median income by HS - that might be what she's looking for.

Langley and McLean

I believe McLean is now #2 behind TJ and Langley fell quite a bit. It might have to do with the fact that Langley home values are falling due to people not wanting to live out there anymore
