Pre-K3 and PK4 Lottery Results

Actually, it doesn't. The only dual language school on my list that does have it is Powell. Lying about our number won't get my kid in.

I am baffled by how OOB with no sibling folks are adding Bancroft PK3 English Dominant to their lists now and getting WL# of 7 and 8? We are OOB and had it on our original list and have not moved from 40s?

Hmm I wonder if this post lottery process is having some glitches. We also got a low number for Bancroft (doesn't say English dominant), and for another school the sibling preference didn't go through (checked the box and filled in sibling's name).

We're 23 from round 1 of the library and that hasn't changed as the post-lottery applications come in, So #7 and 8, must be a glitch.

MSDC informed me there's a delay with the sibling preference. Current school has to verify.

That is a big difference, but I think the logic still stands. I know a number of people who got in to Brent with no sibling preference, which is very different from the last few years. The point is that schools change and your chances change from year to year. A school that was a long shot can become a school where you have a shot very quickly, just as a school where you think you have a good shot (like LT or JOW) can become an impossibility very quickly. Unless you have all low probability schools among your 12, it can't hurt to add a school where things might change.

That being said, yes, getting into Brent PK3 this year as an OOB kid was never going to happen. But this is a smaller cohort than last year, so apply again for K. They may end up taking a number of OOB kids to fill the classes.

Brent took half a dozen OOB kids for K this year and will almost certainly take more next year. The current in-boundary PreK4 cohort (including those who couldn't lottery in) is a lot smaller than the current in-boundary K cohort.

I'm the poster who put Brent and Maury on our list and the reason was that we knew we weren't going to fill up our twelve and figured it couldn't hurt because you never know. If we were to get offered a spot even mid-year we would have to consider it. But yes, we knew it was almost impossible that we would get in OOB.

It is just foolish in my opinion, but I did manage to get my DC into my top choice charter- so there will theoretically be an open spot for K in a few years.

Sincere question- why would you rank Brent or Maury when it's mathematically impossible for you to get in?

Everyone kept saying this and I didn't list either of these schools on my list. My kid got a terrible lottery number and didn't get into our IB Hill school so it wouldn't have mattered, but I now realize that you have to take what happened in previous years with a grain of salt. It appears that Maury still wait listed IB kids, but that all IB kids got into Brent. This means that a few OOB kids did or at least might get into Brent this year. According to the Capitol Hill email traffic, the most likely theory about what happened is that real estate IB for Brent, which is also right near the Metro, got so expensive that families with young children can't afford to move there. There are simply fewer preschoolers in the neighborhood, which means demand is down. If you have a few extra spots on your list, it isn't a mistake to throw on a school that is convenient even if they didn't take kids last year. Apparently, things can change very rapidly and significantly from year to year.

There is so much misinformation in this post. All IB kids did not get into Brent. CH email traffic is not saying this at all. Just... Just ignore this poster.
