And you forget the part about the parade of douchebags who don't think they need to wait in the long lines of cars waiting to turn onto the beltway to drive back to MD. Better to block the right lane and wait for someone to let them on. This happens every FUCKING day coming both from the Dulles Toll Road to 495N, and onto 495N from other points beyond. For the love of all that is holy, stay on your side of the bridge, VA haters. You don't like it here, and we don't want you here. Get some jobs in your own vaunted "tech corridor". Oh, wait...

you're right, Tyson's will never be Washington, DC. but the current fact of the matter is that that FFX more generally (i.e, VA, not MD) will be the preeminent heat of economic activity for the area and a lot of that will be centered around Tyson's.
and oh, by the way, check out the article in the WaPo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/virginia-politics/post/fairfax-county-now-has-10-companies-on-fortune-500-list/2012/05/16/gIQAdAoUUU_blog.html bottom line, MDers say what you will, you're entitled to your opinion (in VA, we believe in personal liberty). but despite the misguided arrogance based on legacy and not current reality, your preference not to look at all facts (not just a nicely cherry-picked subset), you can't deny that NOVA is moving faster ahead than MD, and there is an impact in society as a result. where there is money, there will be better schools, services, etc. etc. but you already knew that since you're clinging to the fortunes that originally supported MD development but which have since moved beyond your borders. |
| IRL the only people I've met who are fixated on this "MD vs. VA" thing are people from VA who have to commute 2 hours to get to work in DC. |
nope, wrong again my friend. my commute is ten minutes by car - and I live in Arlington. |
Or the MD folks who keeping coming into VA to work. Lest you forget, the thread wasn't started by someone from VA. |
Virginia state law requires that drivers in the left lane to cede to faster drivers. This is not about driving habits; it is about the legal requirements applicable to driving: http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/right.html http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+46.2-804 |
"people I've met" -- all those fancy VA schools and still no reading comprehension skills! |

14:05 - politeness seems to fly way over your head.
So instead, hey motherf*ker - I live in VA work in DC and my commute is not 2 hours but rather only 10 minutes. |
Yes, Virginians like the person above are just the epitome or old-fashioned Southern classiness! When I read "hey motherf*cker," I just think to myself, gosh, that person is just so educated and is making such a good point! |
Central PA is very southern. Friday night lights culture, gun culture, stars and bars on dirty pickups; Central PA has well known white-power movements. Fat white people waddle abound. lots of rural places. |
| I grew up in DC and live in DC now. We pretty much look at VA like New Yorkers look at NJ. This is the way the world works. |
LOL are you seriously attempting to argue that Maryland drivers are right about this because of what Virginia law says? We aren't talking about whether the person deserves a ticket or not. In most cases both drivers are speeding an deserve a ticket. We're talking about why DC and MD drivers hate each other. 95 is two lanes for long stretches in Virginia, as is 66 west of Manassas. With heavy traffic, Virginia drivers have learned to weave in and out of traffic if they expect to get anywhere. Maryland's portion of 95 and 270 have bazillians of lanes so they have the luxury of waiting around until someone decides to move over. So both sets of drivers developed expectations about how others will act, and they get pissed off when people don't meet their expectations. |
Its the other way around, DC has a huge population of the poors where as tyson's is starting from the ground up without any

that's you get for being an obnoxious marylander - tough to take one's medicine lest one resort to petty nitpicking. but then why the surprise when one get's venom thrown in the face? perhaps MD is facing an inferiority complex and does'tt want to accept that things have changed in the last 20+ years? I live in Vienna, hate the current nightmare construction but take the long view of things and can see a very bright future for our area. |
I don't know if you actually read the above posts, because the original statement wasn't even that venomous. Why are VA people so touchy and angry all the time? It must be the traffic. why do you assume I've even lived in MD for 20 years? I've only lived here a few years and chose to stay in MD because I like it a lot more. If you don't work in VA and don't care for the shopping, then there's basically no reason to ever go there. When I visit my friends and have to sit through gnarled traffic on Saturday mornings (!) just to get to their houses, I wonder why people think it's so great. |
