GT/AAP Decisions: JUST THE SCORES, PLEASE!

Let's face it, thousands of children are admitted every year, and they can't all be in the 99th percentile with 12+ GBRS. Am I off base here?

I don't think you are off base at all. All kids admitted definitely are not in the 99th percentile. You have kids that get much lower test scores with High GBRS and i know several that may have had higher test scores and lower GBRS that did not get in. I strongly believe they are looking for GBRS to support test scores even when you have those kids who test high on some and lower on others. There seem to be all kinds of results, but for some reason th GBRS seems to carry more weight than anything in most cases. Good Luck to EVERYONE!

I didn't mean a minimum of 12, i'm sorry to have worried anyone. I just meant I was told that 12-16 is considered STRONG. I'm sure kids with an otherwise strong package can get in with 7-8 GBRS with no problem.

Still no letters? Aren't the open houses supposed to start next week?

15:22 here. I am a teacher , though have not taught public school for 7 years, and taught music. I have done a lot of unofficial "research" just among various teacher friends, mom's groups, just out of curiousity. My ds with test scores ranging from 125-148 did not get in last year with a GBRS of 9. I appealed without WISC due to financial reasons, and was denied. This year, I parent referred on the rec of ds's teacher, but still no WISC. I asked today, and our AAP teacher told me his GBRS was 11 this year. I am not gung ho he needs to be there, really. My biggest issue is that he is a total coaster, and does not seem challenged at all. Our thought is, if the bar is set higher, he will meet that criteria. That said, not sure I would appeal this year, since WISC is still not a financial option for us right now. I think he would do really well, as does his current teacher. What frustrated me more, was that with that 9 GBRS and high test scores, he was not even found eligible for Level III. That said, our school AAP teacher is only there 2 days, and we have a school with "high" general test scores, so I would venture a guess there is not a whole lot going on if she is spread to all grades.

Historically (over the past three years at least) the letters have gone out on a Friday.

Teachers just found out yesterday, at least at my school (I'm a teacher). You should hear soon, because last year I remember just a few days gap. I'll tell you that every year we're shocked by who gets in and who doesn't.

I predict that on Saturday you will hear

We got ours on Saturday last year. Think that they try to time Saturday so that you can't call them all angry if your kid didn't get in? It gives you a couple of days to calm down. Hahaha!

Good luck to everyone! Remember, your kid can still go to MIT or Harvard if they don't get in.

And just beacuse your kid DOES get in doesn't mean that he will go to MIT or Harvard.

And THIS is why I have so much anxiety over all of this. Is what was submitted for my DC ENOUGH? Is my school's staff full of it when they tell me not to worry? All this waiting is very difficult.

Amen to that!

And as most of us can attest, you can still have a satisfactory (maybe even terrific) life if you don't get into TJ, Harvard or MIT!

I know it's kind of risky to make such claims on this forum, but it really will be o.k.!
