Right on cue, the nutter arrives.

Maybe her daughter needs regular abortions lol

NP. It's not really a laughing matter, because women in some of those states are dying. There are multiple health complications that can arise in a system prioritizing a potentially viable pregnancy over the life of a woman, independent of that woman seeking an abortion. Even if you feel a college student with an outside support network is unlikely to be affected, you can't judge a parent for choosing to avoid that out of caution or out of principle.

Do you love abortions?

How did that miscarriage go for you? How about that IVF procedure? What about that pregnancy due to rape? How was that for you?

I’ll ask again. Do you love abortions?

NP: Most people who are pro-choice are generally not running around encouraging abortions for the fun of it. I'm personally pro-choice and not a huge fan, and I particularly have issues with them later in the pregnancy. But there are circumstance under which they are medically necessary, yet many pro-life people do not want to allow these. Who are they to tell doctors what to do? What a number of posters have been commenting on is that if their child was in one of these circumstances, they might not get treated in some states and could die. Are you OK with that? And contrary to the lies you are likely being told, there are remarkably few late term abortions, and most of them are for medical reasons - almost no one wakes up in their 30th week and decides to terminate for the fun of it.

So use your brain and think a little bit and recognize that this is a very nuanced issue rather than throwing out childish comments like that.

So does yours you just don’t know it.

Cause these days, girls just use the day after pill or an abortion pill. Same thing. They just don’t tell you, You’re so out of touch you don’t understand it.

Lol. Young people are barely having sex these days, so they aren’t the ones using the pill. The people using the people are married women who don’t want an oops baby.

+1. Young men would rather watch porn on their phone rather than do the hard work of convincing a woman to actually sleep with them, not get her pregnant, and not be accused of rape when they thought they had consent. It’s just too much.

Bingo. Most young men that are still approaching women get humiliated and/or posted on social media, and the ones that make it to a date end up used for a free meal before getting ghosted.

It's literally called Uptown. You'll be fine.

What does it being called Uptown have to do with it. If you define uptown NYC as the area north of Columbia, it is likely not where you would want to live (that is a very broad generalization before people attack me, but I'm guessing none of you would want your college student living in most of those areas, with some exceptions).

The term "uptown" generally refers to a more residential and affluent area of a city, which is exactly where Tulane is. You're telling me you wouldn't want to live in the Upper East Side or Upper West Side of NYC? Because that's what their uptown is. You're referring to Harlem and Washington Heights.

Tulane actually is in the Garden District. Which sounds lovely, because it is, but I’m sure someone will come back with some criticism.

Folks, for the love of Pete why not keep any open mind. Everyone thinks that their place is da bomb and every other place is terrible. I get it - college is far away and you’re going to miss having your kid nearby. But it’s a big, beautiful world, if you choose to open your eyes and appreciate it. Or, at least have the grace to allow your children to do so.

Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte- all sprawl, no charm

I hesitate to join this but to me the main problem with OP's suggestion that we as parents pre-emptive nix colleges off our kid's lists on the basis of our not liking the weather, the politics, the vibe or even our sense of the "danger" of some cities is that it reveals a lack of awareness of just how competitive and random college admissions is. I'd save the raising location based objections ruling phase for after your kid gets in. Further since the colleges want geographic diversity you may be steering your kid to a dead end by suggesting or forbiding them from applying to colleges in places that are different from where they grew up. You should be so lucky that your kid gets into several of their top choices and gets to pick on the basis of weather and your desire to travel there for vacations . . .

There are respectful young men and women out there and there are users. Get off your phone and spend some time with some actual human beings so you can learn to tell the difference.

On the other side of the equation, small, isolated, rural campuses are hard to get to. Can you Uber there from an airport? or an 8 hour drive from home with no options to fly in and out?

You will be going to and from campus a LOT. Especially that first year. Transportation costs add up. A cheap flight home may be easier and cheaper than having to drive 8 hours to rural Vermont four times there and back first semester freshman year.

are there any hotels near campus? Or is it just the one fancy hotel that is always fully booked? This is a real concern if you are visiting from far away, or heck, just want to be able to book a room for graduation!

Is there a good hospital within a 30 minute drive from campus? I'm not talking about a health center or a small regional hospital, I mean, if there is a serious accident, where is your kid going to be treated?

Is it safe? From petty theft to muggings, these are real concerns. Drunk college kids who grew up in the suburbs forget that there are real threats in certain areas of town.

Is the weather going to be depressing as he!!? Cold weather is fun on paper, but some people end up with SAD or just drinking in a basement for four months.

If they are in a fun city, it's going to cost you $$ - going out to dinner, bars, lyfts and Ubers. Do you have the budget or are you going to hobble your kid's social life by telling them they can never leave campus?

My kids had the best housing near campus at their schools in urban and city. One was in a rowhouse I would have killed to live in. The other a beautiful SFh near campus in Providence with a great front porch.

Much better than the shoddy apartment buildings near my rural campus where there were patio/balcony collapses. Put up fast and cheap.

+1 we own an investment rowhouse where one kid is going to school and seriously almost bought a cool condo in a historic building in the city the other attends.

Lmao 20 year old guy here. If you’re having sex and scared of getting accused of rape, you’re probably a rapist.

Where do you idiots get this stuff?

Please troll better. What 20 year old guy is on DCUM reading "cities you don't want your kids to live in"?? Go focus on trying to get into a relationship.

+100 It’s really funny watching old boomers and even parents from the 90’s accusing others of being out of touch, when they are out of touch. This generation is more conservative, deal with it. I’m liberal by the way.

Watching more porn and having less sex does mean they are “more conservative”. What an odd conclusion.

No I get it. Conservative in the sense that they don't want to date women who have sex with a lot of people in real life, but love watching porn on a phone screen.
