There is a critical mass. Great little Chinese restaurant near the Williams campus. And Amherst has plenty - it is a huge college town with UMass. Maybe right about Grinnell but still irrelevant.

And someone has to be the first. There were no Jews at many of these schools years ago. Some Jews decided to be trailblazers. Now they are plentiful. I recognize that Jews can blend in better due to appearances, but the concept is still the same.

Excuses, excuses, excuses...

None of these places are that Jewish outside the college spaces. They’re just as antisemitic as other parts of the country.

Neither of these places have an Asian population outside of faculty. Especially when we’re comparing to a place like California.

So you can stay in your Asian bubble or branch out. Your call. Stop whining. Amherst in particular has enough Asians that there should be zero concerns. Sorry the world is out to get you and no one is rolling out the red carpet to make things perfect. FFS.

Exactly. But Jewish people were still willing to take the chance and go there and they have gone to the schools and thrived. Unlike this whiny Asian parent who is constantly creating excuses. Fortunately there are plenty of intelligent, normal Asian parents who are able to see beyond this and expose their kids to different things outside their Asian world (while still remaining proud of their heritage, as they should be).

Bubba. Asians aren’t the ones who need to whine about being a minority. Soon you white men are gonna be the minority on these campuses, because you’re the mediocre students too.

Minorities using the word "mediocre" is like MAGA people using the word "woke." It is a lazy trigger word that advertises ignorance. If you go through life in majority-white (at least for now) America thinking that all white people who like mainstream things like sports, video games, drinking, etc. are mediocre, you are not going to go far in life. Many of us are able to enjoy these things while ALSO pursuing intellectual pursuits like science, literature, math, languages, etc. Not sure why this is so hard for people to understand. Please remove "mediocre" from your vocabulary, at least in this context. Ironically, it advertises your mediocrity.

But many white people are mediocre. There’s a reason the second merit gets considered the white population drops like flies.

I sung the praises of many Asian people in that post? How is that bad? I specifically cited the importance of remaining proud of ones unique heritage.

Get over yourself. I hope the management here understands context. Reading comprehension clearly isn't your strong point. When in doubt, call someone racist and try to shut down the conversation that makes you uncomfortable. Go get a liberal arts education where you learn to challenge, debate, discuss in a wise, respectful, non-defensive way. Then come back and talk. Your kid would be well-served to go to a great liberal arts college and learn to think critically.

There’s not much to challenge when most of your points are ideological rants about how you think anyone non-white is less than human. It’s boring.

Fully agree that there are many, many, many mediocre white people out there. But not for the reasons you are noting. Those who truly excel and have "merit" are those who can excel both in traditional academic disciplines but also in situations that involve emotional intelligence, socialization, humor, and interests in a diversity of topics that are far removed from traditional academia. And there are lots of people like that out there. Many of whom are white. But many who are black, Asian, and other backgrounds. But many people are too narrow minded to recognize this and think that anyone who spends a moment on these areas is "mediocre." And that is not OK.

Stop with the lies and sad generalizations. Pathetic. And really scary.

Why are you explaining academic and extracurricular excellence to me? Do you believe Asian people aren’t also dedicated to extracurricular activities? That’s the only reason you’d bring it up, but that’s a racist sentiment.

Asian people are more qualified on average than any other race in both academics AND extracurriculars and they still get the boot.

If admissions were honest and non-discriminatory, these schools would be somewhere about 50-70% Asian.

Different (white) poster. Mediocrity is the perfect way to describe a large portion of Americans - all those Trump voters - and it’s reflected in current college demographics (and Trump’s cabinet).

It may not describe you, but it describes a lot of white men. And it’s strange you are conflating mainstream leisure pursuits with a lack of intellectual capacity. I guess it is a lack of critical thinking on your part? This area is full of lax bro finance dads and women who run marathons and are CFOs. That is not mediocrity. Your whole post “advertises mediocrity”
