*Asian kids are not just dominating math, they are now also winning poetry and writing competitions.*

These do not equate the achievement to progress mankind. For that, I haven't seen much from Asian. Even though they do a lot of _looking good activities for the colleges_

I would consider those who achieve to contribute to the societies mean more than these extrinsic success just for getting into colleges

+1 Agree that most kids probably do competitions for getting into college. But we do need to blame colleges for that. All the former AOs who became consultants and told kids to win competitions! We also need colleges to provide great advising for students who want to contribute to society in meaningful ways. I don’t think HYPSM do this well at all.

No, JHU uses holistic admissions. SFFA revealed that Aisan applicants are also better on average to white applicants on non-testing measures like extracurricular activity.

OK MAGA.

Asia has more than 50% of the world population. And Asians are not a monolith. They make for 50 countries of the world.

So, "WHITES" need to get their act together and start studying hard like other people and compete with Asians. There is no AFFIRMATIVE ACTION for Whites and Asians.

If Whites are the most priviledged race in America then they better make themselves capable enough to compete fairly.
Otherwise don't call Trump Taco for reinstating H1B

Is there any proof that Asians actually work harder than other races? They are more resourced than most races for sure.

Yes, it's a common stereotype that seems to play out in the fact that they have better test scores and higher levels of extracurricular achievement accounting for income, hence their overrepresentation at top colleges.

This outperformance is despite the fact that only East Asians hold a noticeable intelligence advantage over whites, yet Asians other than East Asians also outperform whites: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1406402111#:~:text=All%20Asian%20ethnic%20groups%20outperform,greater%20academic%20effort%20than%20whites.

Yeah, Aisan applicants are better to white applicants on any activity.

Racism is a mental illness , it causes you to support things that are against your best interest
The right thing is the right thing even when it doesn't benefit you. I can't believe I have to state such an obvious fact.

which overlaps greatly with those applying to JHU. If anything, the JHU pool should have even stronger Asians relative to white students due to JHU's greater emphasis on test scores. Hence the large jump in Asian enrollment once racial discrimination was made illegal.

*greater emphasis on STEM extracurriculars

Anyone remember when the right wing went after Vivek because he said the reason why Asians and Indians are ahead of Americans is because Americans have abandoned nerd academic culture and have become Lazy for the sake of being cool. The right took it to mean that he was attacking White American culture, and calling white people lazy

Insane. There are not going to be race wars if whites are a disadvantaged minority, which isnt likely either.

I think “race war” is extreme. I think people are just going to move the goal posts. People are going to say the elite schools and the ivy’s don’t matter so their kids can still find their way into top jobs.

They will try but unless someone can make the argument that admission to the colleges are no longer a proxy for merit, this will not happen.

Do Americans actually want meritocracy? We say we do, but do we actually mean it?

Exactly. Do we really love the SAT, or do we only love it to the extent it seems to justify white supremacy? Because I suspect it’s the latter.

So they loved the SAT when it filtered out black applicants but stunned it down when it started following out white applicants?

If we went back to the SAT we had before dumbing down, colleges would be too Asian?

Who is “they” exactly?

I would like to see college admissions be based on academic merit to a larger extent than they are now. If that leaves white Americans behind relative to Asians, we (I’m white) should try stepping up our game.

I would agree with cautious. Countries that admit students by grades only aren't necessary providing better opportunities to their youth. For STEM, academic merits are no brainer but I wouldn't take a person just grind very hard for good grades or cheat for good grades. There must be better ways to determine academic merits than just -tests!

Tests are the best measure we have. And peer reviewed research shows the results are valid

When that is the only measure though, massive cheating/gaming the system ensues.

Cheating happens under any system.

Varsity blues was not predominantly about gaming the testing process, it was about gaming the athletic preference.

Honestly, why would the ultra-wealthy top 1%—or even 0.1%—need college brand names? Are those credentials mean anything to them? Everyone know that education is less and less a tool for the social mobility

Oh sweetie, that's because you're stupid.

They’re idealistic, but stupid is..strong. In an ideal world, this is exactly how universities would operate and we wouldnt have this overwhelming entitlement that people do over elite institutions.

A bit hard to cheat on SATs, and studying for the SATs is not "gaming the system". Do you think studying for the APs is " gaming the system"?

Wypipo think:
When blacks do worse than whites on the SAT, it's because blacks lack intelligence.
When asians do better than whites, it's because asians cheat.
