| Anyone get admitted with a 3.5-3.6? |
In the acceptance letter. |
Interesting. I wonder if existing students are grandfathered. My daughter is a freshman at Pitt and we haven't been notified of this change. |
My kid got admitted last year with 3.6 and 34 ACT. |
I believe it only applies going forward. |
What are your DC's stats? Mine will apply next year, possibly also for sociology. Solid student but not stellar by lower Montgomery County standards (everyone around here seems to have a 4.8 GPA!). |
Don't use this terminology. It is from slavery. |
NP. Did not know that. |
The PP is correct that we shouldn't use this term, but it's not exactly "from slavery." It's related to poll tests (literacy tests, etc.) aimed at disenfranchising Black men in the post Civil War era. Because those tests would also potentially disenfranchise White men, the law said that if your grandfather was allowed to vote, you were automatically eligible. Because most Black men had grandfathers who had been enslaved and, thus, not allowed to vote, only White men were "grandfathered" into their voting rights. |
Yikes! Is there a generally known term that replaces it? |
| Bumping for recent admits. Any nursing? |
| how prestigious are the Pitt GAP programs? Or which ones are prestigious and which are just given to everyone above a certain level? |
Also curious about that. I know GAP for medicine is extremely competitive/prestigious. Others schools much less, I imagine. |
Pitt parent here. Yes, the last 3 or 4 years have seen record enrollment numbers. My DS had 3 years guaranteed and now lives off campus as a senior. Very good off campus housing nearby. Many urban colleges lack a lot of dorm space. Many only guarantee 2 years on campus. More remote colleges can offer more. My DS has nice apartment that is shared with other roommates. Each has own bedroom and bath. Still near everything on Forbes and Fifth. I don’t think 2 years in on campus housing is a big deal here. |
Would you mind sharing the name of the building? I have a Pitt junior and she will need to have an off campus rental in her senior year. |
