FCPS is hiring an executive protection agent

To add on to my post, it’s as Alexis de Tocqueville said “In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.”

Anyone who is familiar with job descriptions knows that this was written with a specific person in mind. Does anyone know when it was first posted, because August 5 is Tuesday--pretty short opening time.

And, why does she need security when she travels? This is just totally odd.

She likely does not like to have parents come up to her with comments and questions. That is what this is about. She needs a bubble.

What a waste of taxpayer funds. She needs to go. The fact that she thinks it’s okay to create such a position, especially during a time of budget cut means she’s irrational and can’t think logically. She’s not competent to hold such a position.

This county is an absolute mess and it's the kids who are losing out.

Top schools in the nation. Shall we compare fairfax schools to a republican county in West Virginia? Won’t even be close.

Let's compare them to schools up north shall we.

DP.

FCPS is not on par with many of the Boston-suburban school districts, nor those surrounding NYC.

She loves to spend money but then complain the schools don't have enough.

Look at the expensive and useless metal detectors she is adding to the high schools also.

Spend spend spend.

Was that a non-compete contract?

You mean all the people on here who sit at home or at their jobs and anonymous post and then do nothing else?

You probably want us parents to also shut up and stay out of Reid’s boundary review, don’t you, PP?

Repeating 7:54 post as really don’t think you mean to argue that posters on DCUM will actually attack Reid:

“You do realize you just got upset that someone defended DCUMers by saying they only post words and don’t physically attack Gatehouse employees? They replied to someone who said FCPS needs body guards because of people on here. Do you really also believe people here will attack or did you just misunderstand?”

There’s a BRAC meeting tomorrow, Monday August 4, for the boundary reviews. They typically post their materials the next day at 5pm (making that August 5)

This timing is suspicious

I follow FoxNews on Instagram to understand the republican lens on national stories. It was so jarring to see DTJ on one slide and then a picture of Reid on the next. Her push for equity is now in the MAGA spotlight.

From the job posting:

Requires exceptional flexibility; schedule will be unpredictable and driven by the superintendent's daily activities and security needs.

Must be available for irregular hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, travel, and extended on-call duty.

Travel? Travel?

It’s basically to have someone with her on all of her school visits, etc.

Wonder if it comes with a vehicle? Glorified chauffeur?

She’s already driven everywhere.

THIS IS A LIE. I’m a principal and my colleagues and I have all had her at our schools. No one drives Michelle Reid anywhere (except maybe her husband who accompanied her to a Saturday event at our school last fall). We have regular meetings with her and see her in the parking garage getting out of her car alone.

I don’t agree with everything she does, and you don’t have to either. But you don’t get to post straight-up lies.

As for a security person, I have no problem with it. The new head of security is a former Secret Service member. My guess is that this coming from him based on credible threats and/or incidents. I’ve done more “no trespass” letters in the last several years than in ten previous years combined. People are unhinged.

Ah the new head of security wants to hire his person to monitor her movements. That makes sense.

She is extremely seasoned and knows how to play the game, while many on the board are just using their roles as stepping stones into broader political ambitions. They are more focused on posturing for constituents than actually doing the work of governance.

It is wild that Moon and Sizemore are running for the same seat, and Frisch is still sitting on the board after losing a VA House of delegates race (https://www.washingtonblade.com/2022/10/10/gay-school-board-member-loses-race-for-va-house-of-delegates/). It gives the impression that very few of them are truly invested. They just default to trusting Reid like she is infallible, and she knows how to exploit that.

The deeper issue, though, is with the voters. Too many people cast ballots strictly along party lines, blue or red, without actually researching who these candidates are or what they stand for. If you do not do the homework, this is what you end up with. Performative leadership and political climbers pretending to care about schools.

No offense, but people need to wake up. Until voters start holding candidates accountable and choosing competence over affiliation, we are going to keep getting the same dysfunction, repackaged every cycle as representation.

Queen Reid is right. I just skimmed the article, but I didn't see mention of any other school superintendent that has this. What are our rights as taxpayers? Do we have a right to an explanation of what credible threats she actually faces? Plenty of teachers and students get threats and the school system does not protect them. If she were known as conservative instead of liberal and progressive would people let her get away with this queen-like behavior?
