FCPS is hiring an executive protection agent

A security guard is not something taxpayers should be paying for.

That’s funny because I still see her driving the same Subaru I first saw her in when she had Washington state tags on when she first started.

What’s your source for FCPS providing her a car?

My bad. She gets a $12K car allowance each year in addition to her $400+K salary that gets the MSA increase all employees get (5% this year). Her contract was renewed early during the Hayfield debacle. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=DABTQB787451

Why does she need a car allowance those are usually for people's jobs that require driving like sales reps etc where they either get a company car or allowance

Reid isn’t a very good superintendent but she’s done a great job of exploiting the school board’s belief that she shares their progressive values in order to take county taxpayers for a ride. Grifters gonna grift.

This county is an absolute mess and it's the kids who are losing out.

Top schools in the nation. Shall we compare fairfax schools to a republican county in West Virginia? Won’t even be close.

Let's compare them to schools up north shall we.

Otherwise it feels like part of a manufactured narrative that Reid and the School Board are courageous public servants just trying to do their jobs in the face of threats from rabid, uncivilized parents. The irony is that people absolutely want them to do their jobs, just with integrity and competence.

Former Attorney General Merrick Garland, identified parents who speak at school board meetings as threats serious enough to warrant FBI involvement.

That is true:

Garland was investigating an angry father whose daughter had been raped and the Loudoun County SB covered it up.

Hey Everyone, MAGA here and proud of it. Thank God Trump won and carried the swing states 7-0 and is bringing the country back to normal. It’s great to control the Presidency, the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court. And thank God the Democrats will run an unelectable like Kamala Harris or Jasmine Crockett in 2028 so JD Vance or someone normal who wants America to be great will continue all of President Trump’s work. Everyone have a great Sunday. MAGA signing off!

Since “the north” is part of “the nation”, the comparison is already incorporated and FCPS is still the top schools in the nation.

I lean right politically. However, I had years teaching--and that included teaching the poorest of the poor. Very sad cases. The kind where you had to send the social worker out because a kid was not coming to school. Turns out, he had no shoes to wear. Of course, the social worker took him to buy shoes. (Mom was a prostitute. The social worker found him "outside" while she apparently had a client.) He was a precious and bright child and belonged in school.

I very much believe that we do need to give more funds to the less affluent schools--but not ignore the others. I also know--from experience--that the funds get stripped off at every level of the organization. Title I funds are generous, but little reaches the classroom. That is one reason that eliminating the Department of Education should get more money to the classroom--but, it will still be a problem. Do you really think that all those people at Gatehouse come for free? Do you really believe they are helping our kids learn?

Every new initiative in the school system ends up hiring more staff at Gatehouse. Teachers are not stupid. Give them the materials and let them teach without all the unnecessary workshops. Most of them could conduct better training 'in house' than the "experts."

Reid needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Put the funds in the schools. Quit worrying about boundaries which will not change things for the struggling kids at all.

As a teacher in a vulnerable population, I don’t get the impression she likes poor kids or EL learners.

There is no where FCPS is the top school system in the nation, not even close. Never has been.

Someone recently said something that really stuck with me. It seems like the school board lacks real oversight over Reid. She is extremely seasoned and knows how to play the game, while many on the board are just using their roles as stepping stones into broader political ambitions. They are more focused on posturing for constituents than actually doing the work of governance.

It is wild that Moon and Sizemore are running for the same seat, and Frisch is still sitting on the board after losing a VA House of delegates race (https://www.washingtonblade.com/2022/10/10/gay-school-board-member-loses-race-for-va-house-of-delegates/). It gives the impression that very few of them are truly invested. They just default to trusting Reid like she is infallible, and she knows how to exploit that.

The deeper issue, though, is with the voters. Too many people cast ballots strictly along party lines, blue or red, without actually researching who these candidates are or what they stand for. If you do not do the homework, this is what you end up with. Performative leadership and political climbers pretending to care about schools.

No offense, but people need to wake up. Until voters start holding candidates accountable and choosing competence over affiliation, we are going to keep getting the same dysfunction, repackaged every cycle as representation.

Hello MAGA

Being anti rape in schools is a bad thing? You are truly lost.

It's a sad but true fact that we currently have the superintendent and School Board that we deserve.

She drives to multiple schools and events during the week. I’m sure it’s just a benefit of the job.

My husband has a company car (with gas card) and he just drives to the office daily. He attends an off-site meeting once or twice a month.
