School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

I appreciate that they are trying to be better on the communications. We are not finding out at 10pm, or 5am tomorrow morning. Whether I agree with the decision or not, I do appreciate knowing already that Thursday is going to be messed up and having extra time to plan.

Baffling decisions on winter weather is a standard occurrence in the DMV every single year and has been for at least 25+ years, through many superintendents. I remember getting a day off for what turned out to be some rain, in the '90s. It is what it is for living here. What has changed is the amplification on social media and the nastiness of bored people feeding off of each other as they froth at the mouth with complaints. The fact that we've had hundreds of pages of screeching redundantly about these decisions since winter break is absolutely pathetic.

Given that it has been going on for 25 years, why don't we finally address the problem? Emails lying about "refreezing overnight" isn't much of an improvement.

Solar radiation melts the snow and ice a little and this water refreezes overnight. Not seeing the lie

You can't be serious. There's a 3-degree difference between 7am and 9am. No, that doesn't make a difference.

People are still going in and out of the parking lots right now. They're not melted. If people could leave schools now, they can arrive at schools at 7am tomorrow.

Look at the forecast. 5F versus 8F. The sun at 9am isn't warming things up much.

You know the morons braying about the incompetence of school districts would be the first to sue them if their kid got hurt on the ice.

They're just very aggressive people who are never happy. Whenever anything doesn't go how they want, they HAVE to look around for someone to blame and excoriate them. Schools are such useful targets for this. During the pandemic, they cyberbullied teachers on DCUM in the most awful way.

This is just a continuation of that. Hate, hate, hate, all the time. They're mentally ill.

And despite that friction, there isn't liquid water in the parking lots or sidewalks right now. Did you even go to a school today?

Not a lot of friction from cars going 10mph in the parking lots. You don't even see liquid on the roads right now. Humidity is so low that any water evaporates.

Has MCPS canceled the day off on 1/29 yet? Clearly teachers could have used the 3 days of closure for snow and the 8 hours across 4 days of 2 hour delays to get their grading completed.

Like in the pandemic, the school system and their apologists are lying in an attempt to justify poor decisions.

You can't grade while drunk or hungover.

Please name the private schools because ours opened on time today without any issues.

I just want my kid to go to school, so she can learn. That's not mentally ill.

They don't count. They don't have teachers' unions or leaders that are indirectly selected by teachers' unions.
