School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

‘ The following is an update concerning MCPS’s operating status for today, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. Plowing school lots and walkways and addressing overnight refreezing has been challenging due to the cold temperatures. MCPS central and school-based staff continue to work to get schools and offices ready to open daily, and maintenance problems are prioritized for repair to ensure heat, water, and electrical service is not impacted. ’

Clearly states why they are delaying school and tomorrow.

There is no overnight refreezing that needs to be addressed in the morning. And building maintenance is no different than if it was 20 degrees warmer. You don't open up a school without electricity, heat, or water.

Yes yes they were canceled today in fact

Get a coat, moron.

Wow, you're a great parent. I pity your children.

My kids have coats, so they're fine.

It's all about you, isn't it? Your kids probably drive themselves or ride in a nice, warm car. Why don't you pick up some of the less fortunate kids who have no choice but to walk?

Who are you kidding? They’re not walking to school. They’re just not going.

There are words yes but it isn’t clear why 0.5-2 inches on Sunday has an impact on school operations on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Several neighboring counties are also delayed tomorrow. Its not just MCPS. Even some private schools are opening late tomorrow. Stop bashing MCPS.

It may be unusual, but a delayed opening doesn't address a legitimate problem other than than letting teachers sleep in.

And they all deserve to be bashed.

It’s not as dark and frigid a couple hours later

Frederick and PG also delayed tomorrow. Howard didn't even open today. But yeah, MCPS is the sole problem.

I appreciate that they are trying to be better on the communications. We are not finding out at 10pm, or 5am tomorrow morning. Whether I agree with the decision or not, I do appreciate knowing already that Thursday is going to be messed up and having extra time to plan.

Baffling decisions on winter weather is a standard occurrence in the DMV every single year and has been for at least 25+ years, through many superintendents. I remember getting a day off for what turned out to be some rain, in the '90s. It is what it is for living here. What has changed is the amplification on social media and the nastiness of bored people feeding off of each other as they froth at the mouth with complaints. The fact that we've had hundreds of pages of screeching redundantly about these decisions since winter break is absolutely pathetic.

There was a lot of confusion because of the way and time the announcement was made. Many schools cancelled all activities because they thought that mcps cancelled all activities. It was botched communication.

It’s really freaking cold out there. Some high schoolers have to walk 25-30 minutes to get to school because if you live less than 2 miles from school, you don’t get a bus. At 7am it’s only 5 degrees. It’s not much warmer at 9am, but a lot better than 5 degrees.

Absolutely all this. The whiners are out of control.

Given that it has been going on for 25 years, why don't we finally address the problem? Emails lying about "refreezing overnight" isn't much of an improvement.
