School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

New arrivals and people with short memories don't know how the local community operates.

Orrrrr do they mean Wednesday and Thursday have 2 hour delays AND no activities after 530, as well?

My teen was told by their coach today that their Tues and Thurs off-season athletic program was cancelled.

Winter sports might be different. But like why cancel today and not tomorrow. It will be colder tmr

Exactly. Plenty of little kids will be home and this also worsens the attendance as parents go to work and kids do NOT go to the bus stop alone (the little ones) and just stay home.

And many kids/teens NEED sports, activities, socialization after school. I don’t understand this at all.

Many poor families have limited heat too and not to mention free breakfast at school.

They don't NEED it, they want it. They can socialize at school or outside school. If socialization is only at school, that's on you. Kids can do sports and activities outside MCPS if you don't like how MCPS does it.

Stop blaming poor families for your wants. Poor families can get utility help through MEAP and other county programs. Poor families can get food stamps, food pantry, etc.

Ok lady. Kids can go to school and play basketball and perform musicals in 20 degree weather. We don’t live in Hawaii. Just stop with your uncaring and ridiculous retort.

AM Pre-K has basically been off since before the holidays. This is not ok.

This is bad

Activities are open until 5:30. And non school aftercare is t affected. They’re not throwing anyone out in the cold with nowhere to go especially little kids.

It makes no difference between 30 and 25. Or 15 and 10. Below freezing is the only line that matters, yet MCPS has drawn this arbitrary line that is based off a gut feeling rather than reason.

Activities canceled after 5:30 only for today.

No all after school activities were cancelled.

Only thing happening are sporting events (not practices) BEFORE 5:30

This is the most cautious I have seen them in a ing time. Not sure whether this is Taylor or someone else who has brought about the change, but it’s bad.

It will be tomorrow too. Heard it already. They just didn’t announce it yet.

The afterschool closure is just absurd.

I feel bad about the activities, but just the 2 hour school delay is completely ridiculous… there is zero reason, the roads are fine.
