Is Barnard the same as Columbia?

That's a fraud.

60% of Barnard admits were ED. You don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Most girls come in to Barnard very “Barnard-focused”. But once you get there it becomes harder to distinguish. Sororities are joint, many extra curriculars are joint, sports etc. dining halls and libraries are open to both. So depending on your activities and classes you can end up feeling like it’s one and the same. My DD friend group is a mix and I don’t know who is Barnard and who is Columbia.

FWIW my DD is a Columbia legacy but only applied to Barnard (ED) because she likes the campus, dorms and class sizes better. My DH went to Columbia and feels like she’s attending his school. When he talks about his “classmates” some are Barnard grads.

So no, Barnard and Columbia are not the same, but it is a unique relationship that is hard to understand if you don’t go there.

Sounds exactly like a backdoor.

Nah.

https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Columbia+University+in+the+City+of+New+York&with=Princeton+University

By parchment’s own admission their confidence level is not statistically significant

It says 95% confidence for this case.

Sigh. It ALWAYS says that no matter what colleges you compare. You have to look at what comes after colon. It could be 56-44 the other direction within the 95% confidence interval. If the percentages aren’t highlighted in green and red, it means it’s not statistically significant.

What are you so angry about? Why do you care about this so much? And why do you keep misquoting?

Exactly. It is not wrong to say you go to Barnard College of Columbia University or Barnard College, Columbia. It is not fine to say you go to Columbia. Whether it's a backdoor frontdoor or side door, the College is an official part of Columbia (ask the Protesters). My kids friend is going to the Columbia graduation ceremony this week as part of Barnard. The degree has both schools on it. The gate says Barnard and Columbia.

Some posters are becoming protesters. Going out of their way.

Anyway, Barnard was/is still the easier admit. Sister went there back then, she never could have swung an Ivy acceptance but my whole family referred to it as Ivy/Columbia just to make her feel better and bc I was at an Ivy.

It’s a good school that is just outside Ivy caliber. Diploma says BC of CU.

The actual school is across Broadway so not inside the Columbia quad fyi.

Gee, it's across the street that takes all of 10 seconds to cross. Barnard is physically small because they share the entire campus with the rest of Columbia. Barnard does have a nice, modern library that many CU kids use. Not sure it's outside ivy caliber cuz Barnard, Wellesley, and many 7 sisters are definitely preferable to Cornell that PP went.

I would personally pick Cornell over Barnard and Wellesley. It is way tougher than either Barnard or Wellesley

If you go to Barnard, then you should be proud of going there and not try to hitch yourself to Columbia. They are closely connected but distinct. Most Barnard students would not get into Columbia and everyone knows it

Barnard College just posted on IG to go to Columbia's page to see pics from baccalaureate. I'll let them know that they're out of line!

Haha yes, tell them to get new caps and gowns too....all these years of wearing the Columbia ones was a fraud!

Not nice. My kid is at Cornell Arts and Sciences and for a lot of Hotel Kids, it is there only way out of low income households. Be grateful for what God has given you and don't look down on others.

Very wrong major if low income kids want to get out of poor families. The major is for kids from rich families.
