Enjoy your years of having the luxury to silence your phones or choose phone numbers that can break through. That is not real life with teens and elderly parents. Or maybe you don’t care if you are reachable in an emergency. I which case, be my guest and silence your phones.

In this case, SIL could silence notifications from OP. Problem solved.

She can moving forward. She probably thought it was a good idea to be able to receive texts from her in case her sibling had an emergency and didn't realize that op was is an inconsiderate ogre

Who is texting someone in a true emergency??

Aunt Betty, that's who. But, she waits until 9 am.

+1. Op is wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.

Strongly disagree. There are no limits on texts, only calls.

No one wants unlimited texts at all hours of the day and night including yourself.
You’re a hypocrite and rude.

Uhhh, that's why there is a DND feature. Holy sh*t there are some stupid people here.

Your SIL is an idiot and you are a whiner posting something so stupid.

An identical conversation happened back when people refused to silence email notifications and now it’s absurd to think you should wait to send emails until 9am. Same will happen with texts. SIL is likely older and struggles with technology.

I also don’t text past 10 pm.

It was before 7am!

My feeling is if you don't want alerts going off, then you silence your phone or set up Do Not Disturb. It's not like I was banging on her door. She has always been snotty so this is par for the course but I also sent it to others

Just gut checking myself here- there aren't time limits for texting, right?

Isn't it up to the receipient to control their own quiet time?

As I rule, I NEVER text people before 8 am or after 9 pm unless they are my kids, SO, or a few close friends.

There are absolutely time limits. An email would have been appropriate for that time, but not texts.

Well now she’s told you to keep non emergency texts to appropriate hours. Seems like she did exactly what dcum always tells people to do, used her words. Hopefully, you’ll stop sending nonsense texts so early in the morning (to anyone).

If there is no scenario you can conceive of where someone might need to reach you urgently, then you truly lead a charmed life and I am envious.

You can disagree all you want to you are wrong.

They all describe the steps that receivers need to take in order not to be disturbed, because they know--it's too early. But rude people either refuse to admit, or they just don't know, they're rude.

More like a sad, selfish life, in which there is nobody who depends or counts on her, more likely.

You can write your text when you want and make sure recipient receives it later (when you text those who are unable/unwilling to set their phone notifications properly).

I do this all the time. Android.

That’s what a phone call is for. OP’s question is about texts.
