| He will get it if he wants it. Some staff may not hold Allrich in high regard, but he’s still better than most. Some of the more seasoned MS principals are pathetically ineffective. And they’re ineffective on top of not having magnet experience. |
| ^ then who become Principal of Argyle? |
| Could be a HS AP, or could be an elementary principal. It’s a dominoes effect unless they hire from the outside or hire an AP. |
Agreed, it's his job to lose in my personal opinion. |
|
Based on my thinking and the criteria I've seen in this thread (current MCPS principal, knows magnet, knows HS), this is who I could see in the mix:
Brandi Overton (formerly Richardson) - MLK MS principal & former Blair AP Lisa Shorts - Eastern MS (might be a little too early) James Allrich - Argyle MS The TPMS principal is a little green, and Deeny isn't going to make a lateral move. After the list above, it's very slim pickings. |
And she used to work there and she has strong connections to Takoma park |
Could also be Jeffrey Brown from Clemente MS. He's been principal there 9 years and was at several HS before that. |
I would not be so sure that they are going to prioritize magnet experience. It's a relatively small slice at the school, and it doesn't make sense to put that expertise above some experience working with other communities represented at Blair. |
As an AP of HSs? Then moved down to MS? What happened before the last 9 years at Clemente? |
It's not uncommon for HS APs to become MS principals. |
He was an AP and principal intern at Wootton, and ASA at RM. |
I've been wondering about this. He gets a lot of praise from CO and he was named Principal of the Year at the state level, but I couldn't tell if staff felt the same way about him. |
State Principal of the Year. I don't know if I put much stock in that. Monifa McKnight was Principal of the Year in 2015. Maybe Allrich has got what it takes to lead Blair, but being Principal of the Year, to me, doesn't prove that. |
Your concerns are valid. But what other names do you have in mind? |
“Small slice?” Magnet is the core offering Blair is renowned for and many students are in it. In business or any type of leadership role, the person in these situations is selected based on their ability to lead the core product while making sure everything else separate from it isn’t seen as an ‘aside.’ In other words, “I obviously care about the whole school, and will give it attention by making sure we aren’t as much of a ‘school within a school’, but I know I’m mostly judged on magnet.” |
