Renay Johnson retiring from Blair

The principal should be getting along with the magnet coordinator who is key in quality of magnet.

Brandi Overton (formerly Richardson) - MLK MS principal & former Blair AP
Lisa Shorts - Eastern MS (might be a little too early)
James Allrich - Argyle MS

The TPMS principal is a little green, and Deeny isn't going to make a lateral move. After the list above, it's very slim pickings.

Could also be Jeffrey Brown from Clemente MS. He's been principal there 9 years and was at several HS before that.

He lives in Frederick County. That would be a long commute.

… that is true. But when they are leading the biggest HS in the state, they can’t just learn magnet and other programs on the go. they need some familiarity.

The magnet coordinator does a fine job and what principal will want to mess with success when there are a million other things to manage at Blair?

I would not be so sure that they are going to prioritize magnet experience. It's a relatively small slice at the school, and it doesn't make sense to put that expertise above some experience working with other communities represented at Blair.

“Small slice?” Magnet is the core offering Blair is renowned for and many students are in it. In business or any type of leadership role, the person in these situations is selected based on their ability to lead the core product while making sure everything else separate from it isn’t seen as an ‘aside.’ In other words, “I obviously care about the whole school, and will give it attention by making sure we aren’t as much of a ‘school within a school’, but I know I’m mostly judged on magnet.”

Whoever gets the job will have to keep ALL the balls in the air.

I think that poster was implying that it will be James Allrich at Argyle

He knows how to turn on the charisma for the CO, but the people that work for him don't hold him in high regard.

I've been wondering about this. He gets a lot of praise from CO and he was named Principal of the Year at the state level, but I couldn't tell if staff felt the same way about him.

State Principal of the Year. I don't know if I put much stock in that. Monifa McKnight was Principal of the Year in 2015. Maybe Allrich has got what it takes to lead Blair, but being Principal of the Year, to me, doesn't prove that.

Your concerns are valid. But what other names do you have in mind?

I don't have a name for you. Previously (but not always), the TPMS principal is queued up to go to Blair in promotion, but Deeny had a good opportunity at RM, so she took it. I guess the current TPMS principal has not been there very long so not ready to move yet.

Have any of the current Blair APs applied?

If the meeting is June 11 this has been decided already.

Has the Blair community been told the new principal will be appointed on the 11th?

Could be June 25 too I suppose. Either way it's probably a done deal, regardless of who they plan to hire.

Does he treat his colleagues poorly? He seems like a good principal, but I only see one side.

That is correct; his teachers see another side.

Hearsay is all you'll get here.
