anybody can survive pretty much anything for 3 weeks. especially since you've already been there for (almost) 5 years.

Visualization op. Every time you get anxious visualize yourself sleeping in on Jan 4 knowing you never ever have to go back there. Every bad interaction think “this is the last time I’ll have to do this.” Try to detach. I also know it’s not helpful now but I probably learned as much at my toxic jobs than the good ones, at least in some ways (made me appreciate normal dysfunction be toxic: how to treat people and how little it takes to create a positive or negative atmosphere; when to act and when to play the long game; what are my values etc).

Count down the days. That always helps me when I am eagerly anticipating something. Use an actual paper calendar and write the numbers on the days.

It is her leave. She is entitled to take it.

You don't understand how sick time normally works. Companies offer employees sick time because they don't want sick employees coming to work to make everyone else sick. They normally expect employees to take fewer sick days than are offered. If a company offers, say, twenty sick days per year, it would (and should) be highly unusual for an employee to actually take all of that time, because few people are actually sick that much. Having X number of sick days does not equal entitlement to take X number of paid days off to do whatever. This is distinct from vacation time, which does convey entitlement to use that time as desired. That is why companies make that distinction.

Do you not have kids? 20 days of sick leave can be blown through easily with a kid. OP also mentioned that her baby has some health problems, so using up that much sick leave is completely possible.

OP, just chiming in to say you can do it! You can make 3 more weeks of this torture. There are 13 more days in office until Christmas. Do you have to go in every day the week of Christmas? If so, that is only 4 more days in office, but I bet the boss won't be there all 4 of those days. Then, come January, you will only work on the 2nd, and then come in on the 3rd and quit! You got this. The end is near.

If you celebrate Christmas, please buy yourself some extra special presents, things that will bring you joy and peace. A massage, cashmere robe or sweatsuit, a package of gym classes if that is your jam, anything that will bring you some happiness.

Also, people tend to have pretty light social calendars in January. What about planning a celebration the first week of January with close friends to celebrate your freedom from this awful job? Having positive things to look forward to can be helpful when experiencing trying times.

For all the people who have been telling OP she is a snowflake for weeks, I hope you get some lumps of coal in your stockings. Yelling is abuse. Screaming at people can be as damaging as physical abuse. Continue to be kind to yourself OP and if you don't have a therapist, get one. It can be helpful to talk through how you are feeling. if you've had a panic attack because of this, you should certainly get some care so that you can heal.

Op here. Thank you for this. I really appreciate it.

I actually talked to my therapist about all of this yesterday and I was telling her how ridiculous i feel because even though I know I have such a short time left, it makes zero difference and that isn’t helping.

For me, this situation feels unbearable, and YET, I cannot leave it. I think that is what puts me into a state of panic.

Op here. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing edibles but I am taking Valium. It helps. I just have to be careful since it makes me so sleepy.

I have been teaching 20 years and my first year of teaching lots of people quit because of the stress and anxiety of the job. I did some drugs on the weekend to get through my first year sometimes because my school had violence issues and kids were verbally abusive to adults. I get it.
