Not yet. The board will meet tomorrow to look at the drafts, and if they want to suggest any changes then, they can. Then they'll send out what's being considered for public feedback.

What are the differences? Just when we start and finish and when each MP ends? I don't see anything else of note. Am I missing something?

I think those are the main differences between A and B. Also the contingency days. There's a chart on pages 3 and 4 of the memo that lists them side by side.

Board members didn't have any suggested changes yesterday, and asked that these two drafts be sent out for public comment.

They made the end of year for calendar B worse! Now it's Juneteenth on Thursday 6/19, full instructional day Friday 6/20 and half day Monday 6/23.

This would only happen if they start school after Labor Day, which pretty much ensures they will start school before Labor Day.

We know which one they really want!

Not wanting my kid in school until June 23, alone, will send my support to A.

It’d be nice if MCPS was like PGCPS where they take off the last few days of school if the built in snow/emergency days weren’t used, but that’d require Mcps to be practical.

Isn't it more practical to set a calendar for the year and stick with it?

Nope. Those last few days kids aren’t paying attention in the first place. Tons of parents take early vacations. Attendance is dismal. Actually most school districts that have built in snow days do this, it’d be nice if MCPS caught up.

MCPS only adds 2 extra days and usually uses both of them.

I think most working parents don't want a last-minute sort of cancellation in which no camps are available.

DP, but it used to be 3-4 and they definitely didnt use all of them. The other poster is correct in saying MCPS is behind the times in general. Most school districts have one half day a week, most have fall breaks, sooo many have had virtual offerings well before COVID was a thing. It seems the parents in this county who never left are really stubborn and intent on sticking to the old ways that worked when they were in school instead of evolving with the rest of the world into the future. The BOE is afraid of these parents so nothing ever happens in terms of enacting change.

It's weird to be complaining about them never changing anything when in this case they actually did change the number of extra days In the calendar from 4 to 2.

This is maybe getting off topic but do most districts really have one half day a week? I know it's common, just not sure how common. I'm probably in the minority but I really wish that were a thing.
