MOCO BOE update: Beidleman Report summary

Anonymous
The MCPS and Board response to the allegations made public in the Washington Post is a good example of how they handle complaints. MCPS says that they are going to investigate, but they hire a law firm for the investigation and the full report is kept confidential. The whole process is to protect the institution and those that run the institution.

Most cases do not have the privilege of being in the Washington Post. Most people who file a complaint do not know if others have also filed a complaint. Witness statements are kept secret so MCPS can manipulate the investigation so the outcome invalidates the complaint. It’s a rigged system that includes the Superintendent and Board of Education.

Ultimately, MCPS and the Board of Education are both advised by the same legal team, including the MCPS General Counsel and an outside law firm if one is hired, so there is no independent review of the information collected. The Board rubber stamps any decisions made by MCPS because they do not meet with victims who appeal lower decisions and they are spoon fed only the information MCPS chooses for the Board to consider. It’s a rigged process.

Any reporter can request the MCPS data on the outcome for sexual harassment and bullying complaints in MCPS. General data is kept by MCPS on the outcome of these types of complaints - how many were reported in a fiscal year, how many were substantiated, and how many were dismissed.

I hope someone creates a MCPS group for folks who are still recovering from their time in the system, for whatever reason. Whether you're advocating for students or for yourself, it's such a fear-based, shame and trauma-inducing system. It took me a long time to recover, so I would show up at least once just to offer hope to others who are still in the thick of it. I look back and can't believe the insane amount of gaslighting. I got the therapy support I needed (and paid for it myself, of course) and still needed a long time to move forward. A lot of lessons learned.

Also if you seek help to make formal reports it ends when no one tells you how or even if reporting systems exists let alone being threatened with retaliation if you do.

County council seems to have some sense. IG did the inti investigation after they were notified of wrongdoing. Why didn’t MCPS do the same? Why isn’t council demanding the same of MCPS? Oh right, the law firm hired by MCPS donated to Jawando’s senate campaign.

Seems like more of an excuse. This is all listed in the employee handbook.

This doesn't seem right. I mean I just read there was an independent investigation. I think you may be confused.

You are ignorant. MCPS hired their go to legal firm for the investigation. Jackson Lewis has a history of representing MCPS in lawsuits. The investigation by Jackson Lewis was by no means independent and the full report is being withheld for review.

And not even our county council will fight for an independent review because some of them (Jawando) depend on the law firm representing MCPS for political financing. They're all crooks.

Pretty sure the post you were replying to was sarcasm.

Oddly they discussed the most recent annual report only in closed session. There's a lot being hidden.

There’s a lot MCPS hides in closed sessions.

There’s student data for bullying (including sexual harassment) complaints that is required to be submitted to MSDE. It would be interesting if MCPS only collects data for the complaints filled on the correct form or if anonymous and informal complaints are investigated and included in the MCPS report.

Likewise, does MCPS track similar data for employee complaints. If tracked by schools, it would identify schools with serious problems needing intervention.

This problem is broader than just one employee sexually harassing staff.

Several of them have called for the inspector generals to investigate (two of them said Jackson Lewis's work should be halted immediately).

Which two? How are they putting pressure on MCPS?

I saw Mink mention it in her note addressing the summary findings from the BOE.

But that doesn't mean she's applying pressure on the BOE, as I know she's very cozy with them.

This right here proves that both MCPS and Dr. McKnight knew. This is a problem that goes deeper than Bidelman. Mcps has a cancer, and it needs to be taken care of which means many people who will need new employment.
