Biden to propose 5.2% federal pay increase, largest in pay raise in 43 years

Basically, it’s a welfare program for minority women.

We don’t have any admin. SES get an admin but they usually manage a couple hundred people and need one. Instead of secretaries, people are moving to having chiefs of staff instead. They’re paid well but the job is demanding. They aren’t copying papers and scheduling calendars the way you must think admin do.

Fine with me if the GOP wants to waste its efforts on coverage of abortion and transgender care, which the Dems will never agree to anyway.

Pretty sure the proposed raise was based upon the CPI-L so it's a sound data-driven approach to giving raises.

The debt ceiling deal came after Biden’s proposed pay increase and includes essentially no increase to federal discretionary spending, so people were concerned that the deal would preclude the pay increase from moving forward. But that seems not to be the case for reasons I don’t understand. My guess is the overall impact on federal spending isn’t that high assuming salaries are maybe 15-20% of discretionary spending.

A 5.2 percent raise and a budget cut means program cuts, a hiring freeze, and maybe a rif. That seems like something republicans could get behind

We heard from our honchos to expect the 5% raise, a flat budget for the year after and a hiring freeze. No mention of RIFs.

Republicans don’t appear to be fighting the pay increase.

They’re focused on reducing telework (not unreasonable) and eliminating coverage of employee abortions and transgender surgeries (lol).

Sure, blame federal employees instead of the industries raking in $$ from the federal government.

Yes, because it’s Federal salaries (which top out around $200K for only the highest paid people) that drive the multi million dollar housing market. 85% of Federal Employees don’t live in the DC area (which is huge and includes like WV and Baltimore). It’s not tech companies or BigLaw, or lobbyists or Biotech.

It’s like you’ve never read a post on this board before. Also - why would it be up to Federal Employees to hold down the housing market prices? Why do people think that it’s only public servants of any sort that are responsible to just be treated poorly? We do t deserve fair wages?

“We want better services!”

“You should be paid far less than anyone because I knew and Admin once, and she made like $100K and I decided on my own that $100K was too much money for a Federal Admin to make because I’m better than her based on absolutely no actual metric except that I personally look down on both Federal Employees and Admins and I don’t make that much more!”

Just stop.

None of the federal insurance plans cover abortions. What are you blathering about?

Feds are not guaranteed promotions every year. Our step increases aren’t even every year (unless you’re a step 1-3 I think? Maybe those are every 2 years).

And we lag behind the private sector on salaries across the board.

Any news on fixing the cap issue?

Also, not every pay scale has step increases and those that do are only every year for a few years and then they’re every 2 years and THEN every 3 years. And then they stop completely unless you get promoted. Oh. And then at 15-10 they stop altogether for the rest of your career, if you ever even make it to that level.

But, you’re right. We should just never get raises. It’s unconscionable that we expect to make enough money to live off.

Do you really really want people working for the government who are willing to make nothing? Is that the caliber of employee you want protecting you?

People are so stupid it’s exhausting.

Just quoting the article which you didn’t bother to read:

“The bill also targets telework, options in the TSP’s mutual fund window, and FEHB coverage for abortions and gender-affirming care for transgender individuals.”

According to BLS, the DMV has 2.8M workers. According to OPM, the DMV has 0.28M feds. So yeah, go ahead and think that a 5% raise to 10% of the working population is going to cause rising home prices. And while you're trying to understand real estate, consider reading something about what's actually going on. You might learn something.
