On the “Catholic/conservative” scale, where is Villanova?

LOL

Villanova farms kids from Long Island like crazy, it definitely has a large MAGA contingency.

Forget about the religious & political angles…I’d avoid Villanova just because it’s full of kids from NJ & Long Island.

If kid wouldn't attend ND if free b/c it's too conservative, they should not apply to Villanova or any Catholic University including BC.

BC is Jesuit. We're catholic in name only and DS, who is socially more liberal, liked everything about BC.
I wouldn't lump Jesuit in the Catholic bin.

I'm so tired of the lame, ignorant line. Catholic isn't a political party. There are Catholics of every political stripe. The most liberal social justice types I know all went to ND.

OP: Why would your son reject Notre Dame ? Does he envision ND as being too Catholic or too strict ?

I visited ND about 18 months ago. Very attractive students, beautiful campus, kind people, but would not be a good fit for a partier.

too catholic; too conservative; too remote; too cold; too insular; too "I don't want to be around anyone I know who goes there"

OP, from all of your comments I don't think a Catholic university is a good fit for your child. Look elsewhere; these schools are not going to change for you.

Yeah, I think the OP will be hugely disappointed to learn that BC, while Jesuit, is still very much a Catholic school.

I went to BC as a non-Catholic (and from a family that never went to church or practiced any religion). It's an awesome school and more about community than it is about religion or the Catholic church.

That was exactly my experience at ND too.

We weren’t sitting around debating abortion rights. Great campus and location. Wouldn’t hesitate to send my kids there. Student body still not very diverse, but that’s a catholic school issue generally

I think it's more of a private Catholic School issue with a 85k price tag.

the only MAGA family I actually know has two kids at BC rn

I can only assume you have a son who is at an all boys jesuit school like regis. no other kids can really consider either BC or ND as targets. So assuming your kid is at a jesuit school, you're probably already pretty comfortable with a wide range of Catholics in one building, who let's hope have learned to discuss and disagree with a respectful voice. and leave as friends.

So, saying that, I think you know the answer.

If for whatever reason you're not at a HS like this and/or have three generations of alumni then .. no, neither of these school is a target

Every college has tons of kids from Jersey and Long Island.

I mean, NJ/Long Island pretty much = the DCUM area in every way

Joe Biden is Catholic. Why would a Catholic school be MAGA?

It wouldn't be. But a lot of people on here stereotype groups of people based on one person they sort of know.

I'm starting school this Fall and was admitted to both for undergrad and I'm trying to decide on both schools. I understand that Jesuit schools are predominantly progrerssive in nature. Which school would you say is the more conservative of the two?

This thread is about Villanova, you’ll get more responses if you start a new thread about these two schools.

I was just actually accepted into Villanova for an online program for this Fall as well as those schools I mentioned above. They are all great schools but I’m looking for a more conservative Catholic university that’s a little more in depth with Catholic social teaching in the overall curriculum. Would you say Villanova would be a better fit for me then Xavier, Georgetown, or Saint Louis?

At least not as Maga as UVA where the “Unite the Right” organizer went.

OP and others who are developing their lists: important to note that BC and ND are both reaches for all, and targets for none. Villanova is in that category too but lower. FYI. You’ve got to be realistic when identifying categories. Current experience. No skin in the game

Actually in 2018, my son was told ND was a target for him (out of a Jesuit HS), and he got in. Also got into BC, Villanova, and Fordham (with merit). I think today would be different, but hopefully test optional will go away and things will get back to normal soon.

I agree that today would be different. Having been thru the past two cycles, seeing results for their classmates.
Also agree that results better for Catholic HS students
