TJ Discrimination Case

Sounds legit.

Not PP but this sums it up: the allegations of test cheating were rumors (maybe true maybe not) but it was a fact that a single prep center accounted for a huge share of a TJ class.

“The TJ test is “preppable.” In fact, the majority of students currently accepted to TJ have taken some form of test prep prior to TJ. In 2020, 96 students were accepted into TJ from one test prep center alone (see Figure 8). ”

OK? So it wasn't cheating, it was prepping. Not sure why we should be opposed to children studying for tests. My DS practices chess but no one says that is cheating for the next tournament.

A publication by a pro diversity political action group that notes that the TJ test is prep-able is not evidence of a cheating scandal where students bought the test. It also certainly doesn't qualify as being "all over the news." I don't necessarily disagree with many of the points of the publication. But, if a PP is going to repeat that tons of students bought the test, and it was all over the news, I want some evidence or at least a real news story to that effect.

Interestingly enough, one frequent poster claims that the 2020 applicants/class of 2024 had 133 accepted students from Curie. This publication only cites 96. This is still huge, but it would mostly be Curie taking up the entire LCPS allocation rather than bleeding significantly into the FCPS spots.

Several of DC's friends went to that center and told them it was true. It's really unfortunate that parents are so determined to rig admssions.

Didn't the ad that Curie took out in the paper that listed their students by name claim they alone accounted for 30% of the entering TJ class? If so I guess the other 10 prep centers only account for the other 70%.

This again. Stop it, no Asian is going to abandon everything else they stand for and suddenly support Youngkin and his clan over TJ.

Yet many did, and it got Youngkin elected. I heard radio ads Youngkin ran against VMPI on a Bollywood station.

VMPI is not the same thing as TJ. I’m a moderate D and I was furious about the VMPI plans. Considered voting R (prior to Dobbs) until VDOE had enough sense to back track on it.

If you tell others what's on a test to give them an edge, it's definitely cheating.

Don't know anything about that but I do know whenever someone claims to be moderate or liberal, you know they're lying.

I'm still waiting for evidence that there was a cheating scandal with kids buying the test that was all over the news.

Anonymous wrote:When did FCPS make any statement about needing reforms because people are buying the test at prep schools?

The scandal that prompted the board reforms was that kids were encouraged to memorize exam questions and report them back to Curie. Curie would teach the next group of kids, including the memorized questions from the previous year. This provided Curie with a copy of past exams, which would allow them to teach their students how to prepare for the specific types of questions asked on the exam.

Students and parents sign non-disclosure agreements where they agree not to discuss the test or test questions with anyone else. By memorizing and reporting the questions, the students violated that agreement. By teaching new students using those questions, Curie provided those students with a leg up on the exam because the students had already practiced the questions.

Happens all the time. At least the parents didn't bribe school officials or pay people to take the test or change the scores like many others did.

They bought their kids' early access to gain an advantage. Many complain about the changes, but it comes down to the fact that they could game admissions, and they miss it.

Your constant demonization of "they" is going to come back and bite the Democrats in the ass next year.

These clowns have mismanaged the schools for many years but somehow they think they'll regain support if they throw Asian kids under the bus and toss out TJ seats like candy to less qualified kids at schools with weak peer groups.

Most people don't give a rat's ass about TJ, but Asians live all over the county with kids at many schools and they've heard about the ugly bigots like Anderson, Corbett Sanders and Keys Gamarra.

This again. Stop it, no Asian is going to abandon everything else they stand for and suddenly support Youngkin and his clan over TJ.

I will - this whole TJ debacle turned me into a bitter single issue Asian American voter. My aim is to punish Democrats at all future elections starting in this November by voting all Republicans and actively campaigning against all Democrats running in my district by trying to convince all of my friends, neighbors and relatives. I regret having voted Democrats all my life.

No, of course not. We won’t do it suddenly. We’ll only do it gradually, after seeing our kids get tagged as toxic, our schools demonized as wealthy and undeserving, and our aspirations denigrated as grasping and illegitimate.

Which is what has happened in this county, courtesy of the School Board and the local Democratic activists who constantly push “equity” and typically do so from a place of comfort and their own privilege.

You have lost us because we have the receipts.

You don’t make us look good by denying there is such a thing as a moderate Dem.

its because of OCD folks like u that snakes like Youngkin get elected.

They wont find funding to expand STEM education or add a second TJ - instead they will make vague references to parental choice and the magic of charter schools.

And oh.. they will offer u prayers and condolences to the next time there is another school shooting.

Yeah.. I dont think even ur friends and family are that short sighted..
