Did we learn nothing from 2016? Vote for clowns and you will get a circus

"United Against Racism in Education (UARE) has been distributing candidate endorsement flyers at the polls during early voting for the July 19 primary. The flyer says the endorsed candidates: “affirm the individuality & unique characteristics of EACH and EVERY student” and “reject dividing students into categories of preference or inferiority.”

The flyer also says they “support a balanced presentation of America’s history including both our triumphs and failings” and “give ALL students respect, support, and a quality education rather than labels.”

Yet school board candidate slate rejects claims it supports removal of ‘anti-whiteness’ curriculum

Dawn is the lady who would show up at BOE meetings and scream while wearing a mesh mask, right? Once I saw she had bragged about wearing a mesh mask that looked opaque, I knew she cared more about herself than the community.

Is she a COVID denier? Was she one of the open whatever the cost people? I already voted Apple ballot by mail, so just curious.

I hope she runs for BOE position. It will help bring diversity of thoughts and ideas to the table compared to what we have today. Some may not like it. Just a thought

I hope the candidates who will provide opportunities for ALL students wins the election. Incumbents have failed in their duty to provide opportunities for ALL students.

The egos from both the ReOpen group and from the Stay Closed (PAGES) group are crazy.

Look, the incumbents and the apple ballot will win. Not because of anything Moderatly MoCo or CleanSlate did or didn't do.

Just because most voters are uninformed.

But those running deserve some credit. They are putting themselves out there, unlike those of us here on DCUM

If you did the research, I don't think you'd be a supporter of any of these incumbents. You give credit where credit is due, and flush the rest.

You're clearly uninformed about recent events. Please educate yourself before making asinine comments. For example, none of the incumbents are on the apple ballot, which is why .

Ok but there really isn’t a good alternative to Silvestre. Fryer is a wacko and suddenly critical of schools being closed, but I recall him being rather wishy washy on that when he ran last time.

However it leaves me in a lurch because I don’t know who to vote for. I checked out the moderately Montgomery guide and although I like a lot of his recommendations I am not comfortable with his recommendations for Board of Education namely Dawn IH. I suppose it will be a process of elimination by using the Apple and moderately guide as to who not to vote for which leaves me with hopefully good candidates. This year is tough for me.

I would look a bit deeper than just going off the endorsements. Bethesda magazine has some Q&As, start there. FWIW, I know a few people who know Valerie Coll personally and have great things to say about her. I also like that she’s a recently retired ES teacher, I think that type of perspective is currently missing from the BOE.

What about Giandomenico? He’s an alternative to both Fryar and Silvestre

Any lunatic would bring "diversity of thoughts and ideas to the table." That doesn't mean we should elect people who do nutty things. Just a thought.

I believe diversity and fresh ideas are great things. But I also think that some of these candidates are truly not qualified. Dawn for example, clearly expressed she had no idea what was involved in running (it was in a Facebook group). Seeing that was a big red flag for me personally. I understand many are upset about how things were handled during the COVID pandemic. But having a slate of candidates that are running on spoiled apples is not something that bodes well for the future of MCPS. I am pretty sure that no school district will do what happened during COVID if we (god-forbid) end up in another pandemic during the next four years. I do not see anything except fights if any of those three are elected, based on their previous interactions with the public and the board. I want to see grown adults who can have a constructive conversation at the table. That trio is not what MCPS needs.

I think her wealth of knowledge at the elementary level will be great for parents with students in that age group. She seems like a great candidate.
