Making this crisis about the treatment of small minority of POCs is the equivalent of harping 'All lives matter' during BLM protests.
It's chaos, people have to fend for themselves, there's a stampede for the trains and you have to wait for hours at the border - you haven't notices Ukrainians are going through the exact same thing? |
There wouldn't even be a crisis if Russia hadn't attacked Ukraine. But OP said he doesn't care about Russia. So I think we know what this thread is, and what OP's objective is. |
Sure I do. The Indian embassies in Romania and Hungary are finally working on getting their people out after not having any real plan and failing these kids. But they have to be let through the border. The first flight with 219 students landed in India. But there are 18,000 Indian students in Ukraine. From the videos posted in Indian media, they were just as surprised as the Ukrainians since the Ukrainian media kept saying there would be no invasion. https://www.timesnownews.com/india/indian-students-face-hostility-at-ukraines-borders-after-india-abstains-from-unsc-vote-against-russia-article-89882847 https://ummid.com/news/2022/february/28.02.2022/why-indian-students-go-to-ukraine-for-medical-education.html https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-60552271?at_custom4=3148CCAE-9866-11EC-87D4-33CC4744363C&at_campaign=64&at_custom2=twitter&at_custom1=%5Bpost+type%5D&at_medium=custom7 |
The USA is currently evacuating its people. Do you think just anyone can come to the USA? Only those with proper paperwork. Same with other countries. |
Exactly. This is a Russian disinformation campaign to do nothing more than sow discord. Stoking racial divisions in the west - because the west is obsessed with race everything - was a strategy highlighted by Aleksandr Dugin for waging asymmetric war against the west in order to re-build the Russian empire. |
| It's tragic but the blame partially lays on the students' home countries who did not repatriate their own before it was too late. There is racism too of course. It can only be exacerbated in the current situation where everyone wants to leave, but Ukrainian men cannot. They should let the students enter the EU on humanitarian grounds, but that's not normally how immigration works. And obviously most of them are not going to go back home or return to Ukraine. Absolutely not blaming them. |
While I feel for Ukraine, see how they are fighting for their country from the top down and applaud them for that, I also see racism at the borders from what is being shown. Indian students tweeting about their experiences with videos is not Russian propaganda on race. I look at this as similar to the Titanic - it was rich vs poor then in a time of crisis. Now it is white vs coloreds. |
First reasonable post here. Yes absolutely, the embassies screwed up big time in the beginning. Now that they are working on it, the Ukrainians should let these kids cross. Here is an article also showing a picture of a flight of Indians evacuated. Every one of them looks like a college kid not like an illegal immigrant like some PPs try to portray. I see mostly young women in the picture. https://www.timesnownews.com/education/first-batch-of-indian-students-safely-evacuated-from-romania-land-in-mumbai-article-89854219 |
| I watched BBC News this morning and they showed plenty of people of color, migrant workers, etc. are in the refugee camps. |
IRC, this whole topic originated directly from Russian media. |
At least 365,000 people have fled Ukraine by now. I don't have data on number of Nigerians or Indians among them, but considering the demographics of Ukraine, saying that there's been 1000 of them is probably a very generous exaggeration. To claim that this is about 'white vs coloureds' is to ignore the reality of what is going on or insist on approaching any and every issue from the race angle, whether it's relevant or not relevant at all. |
These countries are very slow on the uptake. When Covid hit in 2020, and US border was being closed, the Polish embassy contacted my friend and other Polish Nationals and had them on planes home within a week. The embassies should at a minimum have envoys and buses at the borders. The war started on Thursday and Russian troop build up has been happening for weeks. |
I agree with you. Indian embassy didn't do squat till the students started posting on social media. Now after it has been blasted in news all over India that embassy didn't do anything and the opposition party making a big deal about it, they are working on it and giving instructions to the students as to what to do and having envoys and buses in Hungary and Romania at the border and asked these kids not to go to Polish border. God knows what those who are already at that border would do. Social media is a blessing sometimes. If these kids hadn't posted and gone viral in India, they would be on their own like their Nigerian counterparts. |

Here’s another article about an African student who was killed in the Russian shelling:
