Wait pooled for Poolsville.
Not accepted to RMIB.
Invited to regional IB at WM.

Would you keep your kid at Whooton? Or, attend the regional IB? The commute looks bad.

I would consider the commuting time. Wootton is already top tier and the kids will have more friends and plenty of “peers.” The saved commuting time can be used on all sorts of things.

Wooton is the same as any MCPS HS. There are some minor differences in demographics but nothing special about it.

I think they look at semester grades not marking period. Since so many kids have straight As- I think a semester B would be a big deal.

The middle school classes don’t have semester grades. Only the HS level classes (usually math and world language).

Some do, especially the ones that are 1 semester long.

They've clearly stated there will be one more year without this test. They want a 3-year sample to evaluate the data.

Thank you for this information. Is there any link to this info?

I don't have it handy but it's been discussed here before with links back to the MCPS website. Basically, 22-23 is the 3rd and final year of the pilot without a CogAT. We don't know what will happen next. Just that this next year will be the same as the past 2 years.

No COGAT this year but admission is not a lottery. It is based on 7th and 8th MAP scores, an essay, teacher recommendations and probably other criteria they did not disclosed.
Being constantly in top 1% at MAP in MS is a must.

there were no teacher recommendations this year either

My understanding is they only look at end-of-year grades for 7th and Q1 for 8th.

Will they look at Winter MAP scores or only Fall? Not sure when the application will be viz. the Winter MAP.

A lot of years they started the process in November and gave the results sometime in Jan or Feb so winter map's were off the table. However, I think there were years more recently where things got postponed and they used later map's so not really possible to know.
