Lia Thomas - Will this change college sports for women or a nothingburger?

"Pretty much everyone individually has spoken to our coaches about not liking this. Our coach [Mike Schnur] just really likes winning. He's like most coaches. I think secretly everyone just knows it's the wrong thing to do," the female Penn swimmer said.

"When the whole team is together, we have to be like, 'Oh my gosh, go Lia, that's great, you're amazing.' It's very fake," she added.

Thomas' teammate said the future appears bleak for female athletes.

"When I have kids, I kinda hope they’re all boys because if I have any girls that want to play sports in college, good luck. [Their opponents] are all going to be biological men saying that they’re women," she told OutKick.

"Right now we have one, but what if we had three on the team? There’d be three less girls competing."

And that says it all. Why does no one take into account the feelings of ALMOST ALL OF OTHER FEMALE SWIMMERS? Why are Lia’s feelings more important?

Fake.

But - her (pool) “record” time would be good for 3rd place at the current Juniors. She would have beaten out the 14 year old 3rd place finisher by a second but lost to the 15 and 16 year olds who finished 1 and 2 by a couple of seconds.

There are about 5,500,000 high school athletes playing a high school sport at some level (Freshman, JV and Varsity) every year (non-covid) in the U.S. The participation numbers are over 7,000,000 a year but there are double counts and some triple counts in those numbers. A kid who plays football and baseball gets counted twice. There are about 500,000 college athletes playing a sport every year. So, about 6,000,000 high school and college athletes playing school sports every year.

And, how many trans athletes are there? MtF and FtM. About 30. Yep.

Then how about we let those 30 or so trans athletes sit out competitive sports and enjoy recreational athletics instead? Why should women be the ones to miss out on competition?

College is amateur sports.

No one said anything about amateur vs professional. It’s about competition vs recreation. Lia should be allowed to swim. Just not in competition with women.

Lia is cheating by competing in womens sports. What if your female daughter trained for years to compete and lost to a male impersonating a women.

Women fought very hard to get Title 9 sports.

It matters when your daughter, a woman, is competing against a man in womens sports. The man has the unfair advantage.

Why this is allowed in womens sports is beyond me.

Please.. in years of youth and college sports with multiple kids, had one trans kid involved in one sport. Nice kid but able to make much of a contribution towards athletic success inspire of all those supposed super male advantages described on here. There was a team, a bunch of kids with a variety of talents and contributions....they grew up and are all now off to the next thing. No issues at all.

I think most people don't have a problem if a boy wants to cross dress on the playground in the lower grades. The issues arise in womens high school sports, womens college sports and at the Olympic level.

Because it’s 100% politics at this point. Blind trans acceptance no matter what the cost. I’m not sure how swimming competitively is a basic human right, but here we are.

Exactly no one who supports Title IX has a problem with Thomas competing. If they did, Thomas wouldn’t even be a blip on their radar screen. Locally, their first through one millionth issue would be:

2018/19 Virginia High School Sports Participation: Boys. 98,558 Girls. 75,508

2018/19 Maryland High School Sports Participation: Boys. 65,903 Girls. 51,234

So, if you gave one iota about girls/women sports you would have very long ago (Title IX is 50 years old this year) insisted those numbers be roughly equal. As it stands now; for Virginia to get into compliance it will need to cut Football and say Boys Golf. Maryland is going to need to cut Football and say Boys Lax.

Sadly, Maryland and Virginia are actually pretty good relatively speaking of course. Nationally those numbers are Boys. 4,534,758 Girls. 3,402,733.

And you pretend to support Title IX. You pretend that the 30 or so MtF and FtM athletes participating across the country in high school and college sports are some sort of issue. You would be much more honest if you just say you are anti-LGBT and don’t think they should exist. Your lot, thankfully, is dying out.

A statistic that will make you happy I’m sure: More high school trans kids will kill themselves this year than will participate in a high school sport. That’s why every person with a brain things you are Evil.

This post makes no sense and is off-topic. Literally no one here is talking about overall sports participation rates or gay and lesbian athletes. We are talking about the female athletics and the inability of girls and women to be competitive against individuals who are born male and go though puberty as male. Which basis of title ix, with the goal to provide athletic opportunities for girls and women because the reality is the males have advantages due to their biology.

Are you a high school student?

Males have XY chromosomes and produce sperm. Females have XX chromosomes and produce ova. The very rare XXY individuals will come along very very rarely in sport as Klinefelter is an all-encompassing chromosomal defect. Compete according to chromosomes and gametes.

Great speech. She’s right about feeling like we’re living in a communist regime.
