Chevy Chase Elementary Canceled Halloween

Not shocking. The CCES Principal is nuts and constantly has a bone to pick eith parents. The Fall Festival has been happening on the weekends as a school fundraiser for years and included a 5th grade haunted house. The weekend Fall Festival was in addition to the Halloween party/parade during the school day. She also hosted the race every year and had kids raising money for causes in addition. Not new.

Most kids are not able to make the Fall Festival on the weekend as majority of the school now pulls from public housing near Silver Spring and the center for excellence which is comprised of kids from all over the county. It is hard for those parents to get to the school on the weekends. There are very few Chevy Chase families left at the school. Covid drove most of the ones who were public to private.

So the kids missing out aren’t necissarily affluent kids. Halloween parties were the biggest deal for CCES kids because it made the school feel cohesive even if for a day. Sad this happened but not shocked considering the Principal. Nothing gained and more lost for that community.

It is hard to imagine any truth to this comment about public housing numbers versus Chevy Chase numbers. I watch many kids from my neighborhood walking and riding their bikes to CCES. It is pretty cute to see all these kids heading through the neighborhood at about the same time. I’m a new (3rd grade) parent- last year we were bussed to RHES. My child seems happy there- with both schools. Kids don’t care about these things as long as parents don’t make it an issue. She is very excited to attend the fall festival.

I don't understand why people are so up in arms about having their kids wear their costumes at school for a silly 10 minute parade around the playground.

They need pics for their calendars.

The truth of the entire thread right here. That Shutterfly photo collection won't just create itself.
