Chevy Chase Elementary Canceled Halloween

Anonymous
CCES parent here. OP is needlessly escalating it. A political cause? Kids are running on behalf of causes they care about, like ADHD or animal rescue. They aren’t wearing MAGA hats or vaccination shirts. OP is hyperbolic to the extreme. Also there is a fall festival that specifically says “costumes welcome”. Why are you lying OP?

+1

Many schools have actually canceled Halloween, OP. When my now middle schooler was in elementary school, her principal ended what was apparently a many years long tradition of having a Halloween parade and parties in favor of fall parties that were to have zero mention of Halloween. Many parents who had older kids go through the school were angry over the parade - I was just glad Target started selling party supplies with fall leaves on them so we could avoid the "no jack o lantern" rule.

I work in an elementary school and I agree costumes are a huge pain to get in and out of, and not all kids have costumes to participate in. Chevy Chase is also still having Halloween parties in class, they're just doing the fun run instead of a costume parade - and there is a PTA sponsored costume event that weekend.

How can we complain to her boss?

Here is a list of approved “causes”. Of course causes include politics.

I hate those fanatical proponents of etc.

LOL! What cause is that?

Sorry to hear they cancelled Halloween OP. Our non-W school for the popes got rid of it years ago in the name of ‘Equity’ and it stinks. But I see that it’s not limited to just the lower-income clusters at this point (which is what I believed).

Bullshit. The flyer said Halloween is cancelled. There is no fall festival. Also not everyone wants to be a cause. It’s offensive.

Is the fall festival AT school?

This will end well.

It will end well for the people who want to ban Halloween. Any opposition to this will be shut down quickly and strongly by MCPS. Anyone who objects will be labelled a racist Karen. Watch how it pans out.

I won’t. Previous poster CCES parent. I am totally okay with this. And my kid is super into the run for a cause thing they are doing - she and her friends have been talking about it the last two weeks, debating why the causes are important to them and deciding what they want to choose. You may also be against the new social skills curriculum, OP, but this is what it’s about - healthy debate and discussion. I personally think it’s amazing - and am so much prouder yo hear my kid debating these issues than whether to be a princess or a cat. SMH.

Why doesn’t your kid do this some other day on their free time and why don’t you get off your high horse.
