Econ 101

Despite having only been in effect for a month, Florida’s mandatory E-Verify law — which requires employers to hire legal immigrants and American citizens — has already raised wages in working class jobs in the state, the New York Times admits.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) made Florida the largest state in the nation to require all employers with 25 or more employees to screen its workforce through the federal government’s E-Verify system — ensuring that all new hires are legally residing in the United States.

Mandatory E-Verify in Florida took effect July 1.

In a piece where business executives complained that they cannot operate without hiring illegal aliens, the New York Times admits that the law has already helped boost wages for working class Americans who are the most likely to compete against illegal aliens for jobs.

Translation: A lot of Florida's undocumented labor left the state leaving Florida businesses short staffed, desperate, and having to offer more money to try and attract workers.

Why is offering better wages a bad thing? Plenty of Democrats push for living wages and it seems to be fine with Democrats if a law is put in place to enforce it. But when a private employer does it, suddenly it’s a bad thing and wrong ?

Because Democrats don't want higher wages to be paid in red states.

Imagine that. The hate is endless.

Disgusting.

Where’s AOC? Or any of her Democrat friends?

Why they should be there? According to kamala we don't have any crises.

You can't have it both ways.

Biden said the inflation is lower, but the prices went higher. You are saying Florida inflation is higher, but prices for food, gas, housing is much lower there than in any liberal state.

You aren't paying attention.
When you release nearly 3 million unskilled migrants into the country in under 3 years, "issues" arise.

Well, maybe they rape here and there, maybe they kill a few people, but eventually they will integrate in our system with our values, right? We need to be more like Europe and welcome them.

Nothing to see here. Nothing at all. "The border is secure."

Exactly. Everyone should be welcomed. What flipped?

I am still pro-sanctuary cities and still think we should welcome these people in larger numbers. But there is no need to become a police state just because we will have more foreigners around. White DC needs some diversity.

So then you're advocating for more illegal immigration. Cool. Good to know. How many are you welcoming into your home?

At least 408,000 students without legal documentation to be in the country enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities, yet another system impacted by the surge in illegal immigration, according to a new study.

The new report by the American Immigration Council and the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education, found that undocumented migrants now account for nearly 2 percent of the higher education population.

The vast majority, the authors noted, arrived in the U.S. in their formative years, either as children or teenagers and most often through former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program that blocked deportation of certain foreign youth.

These students, often referred to as "Dreamers," have grown up in “American neighborhoods and attended American schools,” and now they are attending U.S. colleges, often on the American taxpayers' dime. Recent data shows that taxpayers pay $182 billion each year to provide services and benefits to illegals and their dependents.

This is disgusting. Billions of dollars when we don't have enough to take care of needy citizens.

When one of the most left wing members of Congress are calling you out for your abhorrent border policies, you know things are bad.
He's talking to you, Joe.

How about the projection that the 100k migrants I NY will cost 12 billion taxpayer dollars over the next couple years!

Mayor Adams is all over the news with this. It’s posted on NY Times, CNN, everywhere.

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/08/09/eric-adams-new-york-migrants-cost-00110472

And this is for the current state of affairs. What happened when even more people come over and the numbers keep increasing even more. Where are they going to live, work, what schools will the kids go to. And this is for the 100k only. What about the other 1.5 million here and the cost for them and people keep coming and coming. Even if you gave everyone a work permit, what skills do they have and doubtful there are jobs for everyone of these migrants?

America is the best, my two kids are receiving free university degrees. Thank you for supporting immigrants!

It’s not free! Your kids are getting their “free” degrees because our tax dollars are subsidizing their tuition. To basically all taxpayers are on the hook for paying for your freeloading kids since you are not paying for them yourself.

Perhaps these Democratic governors should call on Joe Biden to enforce the border since he is the root of the problem.

New York City taxpayers may spend $12 billion on waves of border crossers and illegal aliens arriving in the city daily, triple the cost previously projected by Mayor Eric Adams (D).

On Wednesday, Adams announced that nearly 100,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in New York City since the spring of last year — about 18 times the population of Saratoga, New York.

Close to 60,000 of those migrants remain living off city taxpayers.

The cost over the next three years, Adams said, will hit $12 billion for New Yorkers, who are already some of the most tax-burdened Americans in the United States. To house, feed, and care for migrants, New Yorkers will spend $3.6 billion this fiscal year, $4.7 billion in Fiscal Year 2024, and $6.1 billion in Fiscal Year 2025.
