NVSL A meets

When do they let you know if your kid is swimming? We were just told this week.

it depends on the process, but typically swimmers need to declare availability a week before. Coaches look at times from B-meet to build out the roster. Lots of back and forth with reps on whether the declared availabilities are correct. You wouldn't believe the numbers of people who can't follow instructions. So coaches know probably by Wed/Thu. How they communicate it to swimmers will depend by team.

We get the roster on Tuesday afternoon and events on Thursday afternoon. It changes week to week so don’t expect anything until after the meet on Monday.

Then you are not swimming NVSL - NVSL A meets are Saturdays.

Our pool generally announces A meet swimmers on Thursdays.

I think the PP is indeed NVSL and was saying that they make the A meet lineup AFTER Monday's B meet. Roster out mid-week is pretty common for NVSL teams given the desire to have latest B Meet results before seeding the following Saturday's meet. Not sure why you think they're not NVSL?

Jesus can you people with the constant “you must not be in NVSL” commentary just stop. I know it’s hard for you to comprehend, but NVSL is not the only summer league in the DMV, so no, not all discussion about summer swim centers on NVSL. Y’all are beyond insufferable.

The title of the thread is NVSL A meets. So presumably they were asking about NVSL.

Our pool announces on who is swimming on Thursday and what events they are swimming on Friday, taking into account the Monday night B meet times. You should not expect to know more than a few days in advance.

Most teams seed Tuesday morning after the B meet the night before. Many teams will tell their kids by Wednesday what they are swimming. A few teams are nuts about delaying until after the data exchange lest GASP, the other team get an advantage! It’s usually not even highly division that obsess over sending out the roster until late. Most of the upper division swimmers know what they will be swimming by Wednesday or Thursday morning, so that they can practice for those strokes.

I was our team's data coordinator for several years. This was a typical week. I handed a ladder to our head coach after the meet ended on Saturday. For the first week, I gave the coach our ladder after time trials. The first ladder included times from last year. The coach would work on the lineup over the weekend. Then Monday night, after the B meet, all the coaches (head coach, assistant coach and swimmer coaches) would get together and finalize the lineup. I would get the entries from the coach Monday night (it was usually close to midnight) and I entered everything on Tuesday morning. I'd send the entries to the team rep and she would send it out to the entire team by Tuesday evening. So Tuesday evening is when families would know if their swimmer was entered in the A meet. We would inevitably get calls/emails from families who had swimmers that were unavailable, so I'd have to redo the entries. The entries were finalized by 5:00pm on Thursday because that's when I would send it to our division data coordinator. The home team data coordinator would merge the entries to create the meet sheet on Thursday evening. Our team rep would send the sheet to the entire team by noon on Friday. Hope this helps.

Man, our pool doesn't tell you until Friday morning!

It's either Thursday or Friday morning. It's up to the coach.

Thursday night or sometimes even Friday morning for our pool.

+1 In years past, the coaches tried to make it a big reveal for 12U on Friday.

This…is just wrong and dangerous. NVSL here: We get rosters on Tue/Wed. Events on Thu/Fri. Just depending on coaches/ reps schedule. This is in prep for Saturday’s meet.

Whoever posted this should apologize.

Why is this dangerous. Our D1 pool does this.
