Yes, yes, we have all heard this before. Likely put out there by Tree for you all to lap up and repeat.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not even familiar with half her music. I’d miserably fail any trivia game about her music or her life.

But I know mean girls and bullies when I see them. Healthy, mature adults don’t spend any time talking about, thinking about, or learning about things and people I don’t like or think are awful.

You don’t like her because she sees you too.

+1
The haters' obsession with her is a classic example of mean girls and bullies. They know every intimate detail of her life (or at least, they think they do) yet they claim they can't stand her. They actually obsessed.

Taylor goes through friends faster than toilet paper.

She wants people to know every intimate detail because she appeared on talk shows daily, shared Instagram posts about her engagement, and has arranged pap walks.

If she wants to hide, she can hide. She chooses not to do that. Plenty of other billionaire celebs can lay low when they want. TS craves the attention and has her PR machine put the stories she wants out there.

I'm not a hater but I don't worship her like you do.

What a leap to assume that people who question your weird, miserable hobby “worship” her.

I never liked metal music growing up. So you know what I did? I didn’t listen to it. I sure as hell didn’t seek out opportunities to tell people how bad I thought was or how much I disliked the artists (whose names and lyrics I also didn’t know btw). THAT’S normal.

Do you think it makes you sound cool? Do you feel superior? What’s missing from your life that you need this?

Music criticism is normal. For some reason, you do not like to hear criticism about Swift.

So healthy, mature adults can only think about things you like? That is a wacko sentence. I’m sure you “mistyped” but you should really read that because what you wrote says healthy mature people are only allowed to think and learn about things you like under your definition.

Who are you the king?

DP. The point - that you missed by a mile - is that "healthy, mature adults" don't obsessively research and post about people/things they despise. Instead, they do what they can to avoid hearing about the object of their derision. For example, I skip right past any thread that is about someone I'm not interested in. But not you! You thrive on it. And that is beyond peculiar, to say the least.

That PP made the exact point they wanted to. They don’t want to read anything negative about TS (cognitive dissonance), therefore those of us who do have negative opinions shouldn’t express them. So they try to make fun instead. It’s pretty basic stuff: If you don’t like the information, shoot down and belittle the source. Character assassination is a tactic that has been around a LONG time.

Thank you, fellow normal person!

I've noticed in this thread that people attack anyone with a slightly critical opinion, use the term "actually romantic," or label people a "hater."

This is a tactic that TS has taught them because she blames others for her own issues. Everything is the fault of the patriarchy, Scooter Braun, Katy Perry, Jack Antonoff, Joe Alwyn, Charlie XCX, etc.

Seriously ,I do not know of other artist with so many beefs against other people and with so many "diss tracks" to their name. We have at least one diss track per album. Learn how to deal with humans, Tay Tay.

DP - she doesn’t have a beef with Jack Antonoff, Joe Alwyn, or Katy Perry. Are you confused?

😂Right.

Yeah, I’m not sure where this rumor got started that only like tweens love Taylor. You can look at the demographics for her tour and most people attending were millennials and Gen X.

I have two teen girls and they do still enjoy her but they are not rabid Swifties. They eventually got around to listening to the new album, but were not downloading it at midnight or whatever.

This thread seems to either think people are all swift all the time or haters. But there’s plenty of people who just enjoy her and don’t get off saying mean things about her. And I hope one day your freshman in high school gets to be 35 and beyond too. There are certainly worse things than being old. The alternative is not great.

Exactly! There is one particular poster who seems to think anyone who like's TS's music must be a "rabid Swiftie". She's the one who knows all these wacky inside details that I certainly don't know or care about. And she's calling others "rabid" - so much projection.

There are several of us here.

The haters know FAR more about her than I ever will. It’s unsettling, to put it mildly.

I kind of love it that the new Swiftie badge of honor is to know nothing about her. Progress!!! AND not all the reviews/articles of her were glowing. Gives me hope that maybe free speech will prevail and the power of internet fandom cults may be waning.

Free speech? Absurd. Free speech is about the government.

You are free to express your opinions online and other people are free to tell you you’re acting weird.

Yes, but, free speech is also about controlling what others are saying. For example, issuing death threats to journalists who write bad reviews (Swifties have done this) and using lawyers to silence critics.

https://www.aclunc.org/news/taylor-swift-attempts-silence-critic-aclu-fires-back

So yes, I do think people backing away from Swift and Swiftie culture shows cracks in the way internet fandoms wield power online. I do also think, this may come from watching Trump’s internet fandom and policies take shape in the real world, not just online.

Gosh, I dunno - accusing someone of being a "white supremacist" (with zero evidence, of course) sure seems like a defamation case to me. Who's intimidating who here?

Anonymous wrote:Am I delusional, or does Ruin The Friendship sound just like the opening of When We Are Together by The 1975 and It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over by Lenny Kravitz?! Did she choose that deliberately?

That song is so out of place on the album. One theory is she is saying she doesnt regret ruining her friendship with mattt by dating. I dont know if I buy it. Did they have a friendship or a ten year fliration? Maybe she just needed a 12th song for her 12th album?

Oh for God’s sake. That song is about her good friend from HS who died and how she wished she had “ruined the friendship” by seeing if it could have been more. The boy’s mother even commented on it. It has nothing to do with MH and some of you need to move on, already.
https://people.com/mom-of-late-taylor-swift-friend-jeff-lang-breaks-silence-on-ruin-the-friendship-shes-keeping-his-name-alive-11830773

Yea duh. Everyone knows that. Why is it on this album with musical references to 1975 songs? Art has multiple meanings. I dont actually think she is talking anout mh here, but that is one theoey out there - that one layer/meaning of this song is after it all she doesnt regret going for it because she answered the question (remember her song question is about mh).

Exactly. Taylor is famous for using double meanings, red herrings and mixing up/making up events in her songs so that it won’t be obvious who she is talking about. Only a handful of her closest people who know the details of certain muses and events can decode the clues she leaves. “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else.”
She has done it her entire career except on TTPD, where she was obvious and didn’t give a damn.

I know Ruin The Friendship is allegedly about a HS crush who died, I just don’t buy that she is reminiscing about him 15+ years after his funeral and 20 years after she didn’t kiss him at a dance. At the end she sings “And my advice is always answer the question, better that than to ask it all your life.” It relates directly to her song Question ? on Midnights, which is supposed to be for Matty. Also repeating “Should’ve kissed you anyway” multiple times sounds just like “She has a boyfriend anyway.” That, plus the music similarities.

+1. The song is not about a boy in high school, or at least not just about that. Jeff Lang didn’t have a brother, and in the first verse Taylor sings, “Watching the game from your brother’s Jeep.”

I don’t understand why people expect Taylor to take absolutely no liberty with her story telling. I don’t think we hold any other artists to this kind of standard. Have you ever seen any movie based on a true story?

It can be loosely based on events. I don’t why we think every word of the song has to be true. She is capturing a feeling of loss and regret about a high school crush. It’s possible that 50 Cent never played at the prom. Gasp. Heck, it’s possible that she and the Jeff were never even at prom together. She is just telling a story and using elements people will recognize. A high school football game, a musician that was popular during her high school years, a dance that most people associate with high school .

It is quite possible we will find out that Jeff and she in fact did not have second period together. And that’s OK. Maybe it was a friend’s jeep, but it doesn’t sound quite as good in the song. It doesn’t all have to be factually correct, it is art.

+100
I'm consistently amazed at just how literal some of these twits are. It's funny but also pretty sad that they have such a weird and narrow view of everything.

Taylor Swift didn’t go to prom and was mostly homeschooled throughout high school so she could focus on her music. Jeff Lang doesn’t have a brother. Etc. Yet you and the rest of her gullible fandom believe that Ruin the Friendship is about some random irrelevant boy from 20 years ago, despite Taylor admitting, “I prefer to hide in plain sight” on Dear Reader and “lovelorn, and nobody knows.”

Who is the twit with narrow view of everything?

Are you just making stuff up? There is a whole documentary about Taylor in school. Showing her driving to school, showing her solving equations in math class and hanging out with friends walking through the hall with a Starbucks cup. She absolutely had a different high school experience than most of us and did do some homeschooling, but she also did want to have somewhat of a typical high school experience.

Further, Jeff Lang’s mother has come out and said how much she appreciates Taylor keeping Jeff’s memory alive, what good friends they were, and posting a bunch of pictures of them together.

You seem to be sort of implying that she made this all up but the receipts are there.

Like was explained, I’m sure she took a lot of liberty with some of the story because all of us have high school experiences. We all know what prom is, we all know what second period is etc. It probably sounded better to say his brother‘s jeep than his friend‘s jeep in the song. All of this is OK. It’s absolutely probable and possible that she takes feelings and builds a song off and it can be a combination of several things throughout her life. The theme of this song is clearly regret from a high school crush, but sure she could be incorporating other feelings of lost love. Seriously this is not a big deal or a gotcha.

Well said. Honestly, I think some of these weirdos exist solely to seize on something (anything) and become outraged about it. Incredibly tiresome people.

Not sure why there is a problem with a musician promoting her album. Feel like pretty much every other musician does this? Taylor has not had to do it as much in the past because of who she is, but I don’t find it that abnormal that she’s engaging with fans more during this phase, doing talk shows, etc., when she has a new album coming out. It’s a little weird to criticize her for that.

She released forty variations to manipulate the charts. She released versions in the Zika to try and squish Charlie xcx.

Have you not noticed she released an album or movie on Kim K’s birthday, released a Hamlet song when Joe is about to appear in Hamlet, and released an Elizabeth Taylor song around the same time as Kim K’s documentary about Elizabeth Taylor?

Taylor Swift is petty and takes petty actions.

No one cares that she promotes music. It’s the fact she is absolutely manipulating the charts with all these variations.

DP. Your post is the first I've ever heard about any of these things... which leads me to wonder what sites you're spending your time on that you would even know about any of this? You seem utterly obsessed with all things Taylor Swift. Interesting, to say the least.

I understand competing with other artists releasing albums the same day or week, but the rest doesn’t make sense. Why would having a song about Elizabeth Taylor suppress a documentary about Elizabeth Taylor? If nothing else, it gets younger people interested in Elizabeth Taylor. My 13-year-old had no idea who that was is and now she knows more about her because of the song.

It’s probably no coincidence that Elizabeth Taylor made the cover of people magazine this week. She’s not exactly in the news anymore, but if there’s a bunch of different things about her coming out… Taylor’s song, Kim’s documentary, then there’s just going to be a bunch of chatter about ET. That typically boosts sales for all of those things as they feed off each other.

Remember when there were like three documentaries about the Fyre festival? Typically once people watched one they would watch the other two because they were so fascinated.

Taylor may have sold out 150 stadiums, but she’s still spiteful and obsessed enough to go after Travis’ ex who in fact dumped him.
