Interesting. Why do you say that? 1989 was a purely pop album and a huge success. I don't think it's a stretch to think she would have done another solid pop album next.

TTPD hit me at the right place at the right time. I wasn't a giant fan before, but TTPD made me a total convert. I'm not quite ready to switch gears yet.

I'm a Karma truther too, and like that theory PP.

I heard one yesterday that she was recording rep and since her heart just wasn't in it, went this direction instead. With some of the rep vault tracks reworked to fit this narrative. I am interested in the "hatching" of these songs like she teased. I am not a huge diehard swifty - but I like the guessing games and easter eggs she puts out. It's fun and mindless to decode them and a nice escape.

TTPD was ok. Liked The Black Dog and Manuscript, but I am excited for some pop music. Even if its bubble gum and shallow - it will be fun.

I think her older fans have enjoyed these last several albums since they grew up with her and the storytelling/sound has matured - but she needs to reinvigorate the younger listeners and hook them the way shake it off did 10 years ago.
