There’s zero way for you to know they “simply didn’t know.” There could have been complaints they ignored or supressed. They could have created an atmosphere where people were afraid to complain.

The board is responsible for the placement of that man. Period. He's so creepy, why didn't a single one of them question if he was really the best fit? They're supposed to be the most "elite" of Washington, DC. But not a single one would dare question what had to have been an intuitive nagging that the guy was creepy. There are just too many people who felt it.

The typical image of a pedophile is someone who charms everyone. They are loved by all, exceptionally good with children, and easily gain the trust of parents without question. In contrast, the stereotypical ‘creep,’ who is cold and strange, is not the typical pedophile. So why people are still talking about this aspect of JC

Oh man, how many pedophiles do you know?

Just curious which question they failed to ask? “Do you fantasize about abusing children?” “Do you traffic in child pornography?”

They interviewed him, presumably spoke with his former employers, presumably did a criminal background check. Help me understand the specific measures that would have satisfied you.

People just can’t accept that sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing that reasonably or legally could have been done to prevent it. It’s just that simple.

As a current parent, I do not have an emotional reaction to this person who hasn’t worked at Beauvoir for almost a decade but it was good they acknowledged the incidents of this week in such specificity, especially since many in the Beauvoir community are also current and past members of the NCRC community.

This frustrates me. Just because he wasn’t directly dealing with your kid you’re sleeping ok. What about the 5+ admin and teachers currently at bvr that worked with him for 10 years who directly know your kid? Or what about James stepping foot in bvr several times a year for meetings?

Exactly. The school enabled an evil man to prey on children for two years!
Where’s the school’s list of concerns that parents or teachers expressed during those two years?
What? Parents listed concerns that, ‘hey, I think you have a pedofile on your staff’. I’m pretty sure nobody brought it up because nobody knew

Now - need accountability, sweep for cameras, lie detector tests if need be, full transparency and reckoning.

Lie detector tests? Hahahaha. For whom? Administered by whom? Asking what? With what legal authority?

Perhaps head back to your area of expertise which I suspect is not law enforcement.
plus 1000. That person is so unglued

Each NCRC parent should feel free to make their own decision and not worry about losing friendships or placement at BVR or anywhere else. Creating that culture should be the priority now at all schools—no guilt trips and open to criticism. It’s not the parents’ job to save the school from infamy.

My children are at another local preschool and parents have pushed them to solicit anonymous feedback and encourage openness over the years (regarding comparatively minuscule issues). It’s been good for the community.

Missed the point. It wasn't questions. It's the fact that there was at least one person on that search committee that had to be like, "hhmm, something is off about this." But people like them put their own connections and professional and social reputations above what would have been the right thing to do. So so many people got an off vibe about that guy, but everybody was too afraid to say anything.

Many families with choices choose public school out of NCRC. Most families attend NCRC for the education not emissions to a certain private school.

The amateur FBI agents and experts here have probably never set foot in NCRC. I have one kid still there and one graduated. We are shaken to the core but if you were in anyway part of this community you would know the school have sent regular email updates and held multiple town hall meetings. They are doing all the things everyone here is suggesting, like third-party investigations, sweeps of the school and obviously complying with the FBI.

The FBI said they currently have no reason to think Carroll did anything to kids at school. I am inclined to believe this based on my own experiences. My kids don’t know who he is because he never spent anytime with them in any capacity. He greeted them good morning on the steps and that was it. He was there to ensure successful outplacement. No one ever called him “magical” and he did seem aloof. But that doesn’t make someone a criminal. I thought the board hired him because of his knowledge of local private schools, not because of his personality. The associate head was the one dealing with the kids and teachers on a day to day basis.

I don’t fault parents who kept their kids home last week. But do not try to blame this on the teachers or parents. This community has enough to process.

James hired a creepy development person a couple of years ago that eventually left mid-year (let go or fired I'm not sure). There were multiple complaints about him and it was strange because he didn't have a strong work history in Development. I heard that he was a friend of James. Very strange in retrospect.

It is ridiculous that recent NCRC alums are not being included in any communications about town halls/ investigations - our kids were there while James Carroll was there - and so far we have received only one email. We should be getting updates because we also have skin in the game / worry about our kids who were there.

Yeah I agree with that. We are getting everything because we still have one kid there. All alumni families from the last seven years should get the same, I agree.

How long ago? When he first was hired as HOS or after?
