Will the pendulum swing?

Anonymous
When Obama was elected, I remember being warned that we should soak it in while we can because his presidency would trigger a resurgence of blatant racism. They were correct. It triggered so many other things too. His intellectualism was intimidating to many people, and I think that’s why people fell for Trump and his 5th grade speaking/writing style.

So, once we are finally done with Trump, will the pendulum swing back? Trump has brought to light everything that is wrong and ineffective about our system of government. The whole thing relies on having a president who cares about the rule of law and is a basically decent person. Will we fix the system now that we know how easily it can be hacked? There are too many things to name here, but I honestly think we need everything from term limits for congress to an aptitude test for candidates. Someone with a criminal record should be a no go for any public office. My friend had a dui 25 years ago, and Canada didn’t let him in their country last year because of it. But here we are, electing a felon as potus, and people even contemplating how he could still govern from prison if it came to that. What has happened to this country? I am all over the place right now, but basically I hope the pendulum swings back toward having very high standards for our elected officials. They should be the best and brightest in their field. This is how far we have fallen - Dan Quayle was basically ousted from society when he couldn’t spell potato. Trump posted “south carerdddd” and we hardly flinched.

No, unfortunately. People are too dumbed down due to dropping educational quality and now AI.

We need to bring decency back.

And the American economy too after he finishes looting it.

Barney Frank also warned us.

No. The right wing has seized control of the media and is much more effective at pushing their version of news than the left. Look at how everyone is pandering to Trump.

Lol.... you sound like the idiots who thought Trump would be successful during his 1st term. Trump is already failing his party in current and upcoming elections, just as Biden failed his party, and just as Trump failed during his 1st term. A president with a sub 40% job approval rating is a failure by any metric. The pendulum is already swinging back in the opposite direction.

NP… I wish that I could share in your optimism but I am right there where OP is. I’m not sure that destroying the economy is going to be enough to destroy the right wing in this country.

Really? Did you think Trump with his sub 40% approval rating was going to be successful in 2020? Did you think Biden with his sub 40% approval was going to be successful in 2024? History repeats itself. Welcome to history repeating itself.

Nope it’s too late without a actual civil war republicans ie criminal traitors have control that now can not be taken away

It will take a law-breaking socialist version of Trump to get white conservatives to agree to hard-wired limits on the Presidency in the Constitution.

But right now, they like squishy "norms" that can easily be violated without consequences.

Will take us another 10-15 years to get to the other side of this.

The pendulum always swings if allowed to. It’s the “allowed to” part that is key. 38% of this country is probably ok with election rigging if it gets them the outcome they want.

Sure, which explains why Democrats are so unpopular with the general public.

George Bush was banned from Canada due to his dui.
