Switzerland has a ton of guns too. But it regulates them pretty strictly. For one you have to register guns. And another the permitting process is a lot stricter. If you’ve been convicted of a crime or have a history of drug addiction you can’t own one. People who are deemed dangerous and violent cannot get one. Local police with whom gun owners must be registered will sometimes consult psychiatrists before deciding whether someone can own a gun. Switzerland has not had a mass shooting since 2001. |
He was pulled to his feet by the Secret Service. Let's not pretend that a 300-pound 77-year old sprung to his feet. BTW, did he get his shoe back? The audio will also be iconic. |
So let’s get rid of laws. |
SCOTUS is working hard on it. |
Trump's martyr moment: Assassination attempt transforms campaign https://www.axios.com/2024/07/14/trump-assassination-attempt-martyr-rnc
The Attempt on Donald Trump’s Life and an Image That Will Last The bloodied former President, his fist raised, flanked by an American flag, is already an indelible portrait of our era of political crisis and conflict. Almost immediately after shots rang out at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the former President flinched onstage, grabbed at his face, and dropped to the ground. In the chaotic moments that followed, Trump was helped to his feet by Secret Service agents, and delivered definitive proof of life: he raised his right fist toward the sky and mouthed to the crowd, “Fight.” In the news photo that circulated shortly after, taken by Evan Vucci, of the Associated Press, Trump is set against a clear blue sky and four Secret Service agents clutch at him, one of whom stares directly at the camera, his eyes shielded by a pair of black sunglasses. An American flag appears to almost float over the scene. Trump’s lips are pursed, his eyes narrowed, and his chin slightly raised. There are streaks of blood atop his right ear, and on his cheek. He is looking out far beyond what the camera can take in—at the public, at the future—and he is defiant. Whoever tried to kill him failed. It is already the indelible image of our era of political crisis and conflict. https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/the-attempt-on-donald-trumps-life-and-an-image-that-will-last It’s already an iconic photo worldwide. |

In the first few pages I questioned if this event was real or a publicity stunt, based on the first footage, it seeming unreal, and knowing that Trump is a reality-star, felon, showman. Clearly now, after details emerged and learning of the tragic deaths and injuries to bystanders, I don’t believe it was staged but rather that it’s an awful, unacceptable event in American politics.
I will never vote for Trump. But I can have sympathy for him after this. I don’t want to see him assassinated. I just don’t want him leading our country. I want him to retire to his golf course at Mar-a-Lago and leave our country alone. I’m certainly not a crazy, irrational leftist. I’m a DC area mom worried about the future for my kids. I don’t trust anything from Trump. So the posts on here questioning whether this was real are not all crazy trolls. It shows we don’t believe anything out of Trump until corroborated by legitimate news services. He’s a liar and a terrible human. But he shouldn’t be assassinated. |
I did that here in Massachusetts, I'm still a registered Republican here because it helps me stay in the loop with Republican propaganda - I get dozens of emails every day from RNC and whoever they sell their mailing list to. I voted for Olympia Snowe back in the day, but haven't voted for a Republican in decades. Am an independent voter at heart and always have been. Let's wait and see what, if anything, can be gleaned from law enforcement interviews with his family, friends, coworkers, former teachers, etc. He might have been mentally ill and it was a Hinckley type thing, or he might have been a misguided kid who thought he was going to be doing his country a solid. |
I imagine if he saw this coming he would have done anything to avert this. His son died horribly, as did the bystander . |
Dont be ridiculous. They do it by not be awash in guns actually. No safe nation on earth has as many guns as the US has. Any idiot who breathes here can go on and purchase an arsenal of war weapons and in many states can go around armed without any checks and any permits. There’s no amount of police that can keep up safe with all the weapons around. There’s no reason a regular 20 yr old should have an AR-15 if not in the Army |
He won't cower for you. |
Cope. |
If we don't know the exact calibers, none of this is real. Amiright? |

Since the shooter manage to leave clues that both sides are using to claim that he is aligned with the other, let's review exactly what we know:
1) On January 21, 2021, the guy made a $15 donation through Act Blue to support the "Progressive Turnout Project". This is an organization that tries to turn out loosely-engaged Democratic voters. The organization had specifically targeted Pennsylvania. 2) In September 2021, he registered as a Republican. It is unlikely that this had anything to do with presidential politics because that race would not get going until 2023. But what was happening at that time was an important Senate race. Therefore, the shooter might have registered as a Republican in order to participate in the Republican Senate primary. But, this is speculation and we really don't know what caused him to do this. He could have just as easily wanted to participate in the primary for the local dog catcher. At any rate, I expect that more information about the shooters motivations will be forthcoming and neither of these facts may end up meaning much. |
