The shooter donated to Act Blue on the day Biden was inaugurated.

Yeah, but he registered as a Republican after that.

So he could vote against Trump in the primary.

I did that here in Massachusetts, I'm still a registered Republican here because it helps me stay in the loop with Republican propaganda - I get dozens of emails every day from RNC and whoever they sell their mailing list to.

I voted for Olympia Snowe back in the day, but haven't voted for a Republican in decades. Am an independent voter at heart and always have been.

Let's wait and see what, if anything, can be gleaned from law enforcement interviews with his family, friends, coworkers, former teachers, etc. He might have been mentally ill and it was a Hinckley type thing, or he might have been a misguided kid who thought he was going to be doing his country a solid.

I think the latter, it's just the vibes I'm getting. And one person's crazy may be another person's sane in this situation - not saying according to me, but there are lots of perspectives at play in our political polarity right now. What a mess, and a crime, and a tragedy.

Like it or not this will get Trump votes from those in the fence.

Obviously his supporters will go rabid.
People on the fence or people that voted for him before and weren’t planning on revoting for him will look at as the man just took a bullet for his country and he’s still fighting.

He’s shot, he’s bleeding and still more alert than Biden.

Unfortunately, whatever this kid thought he was "accomplishing", he just made everything so much worse. In addition to the loss of life.

Because if I were shot in the head, I would definitely stop and pose for pictures and raise my fist screaming fight, as SS tried to drag me away for medical attention

They planned this whole stunt
They didn’t count on (and don’t care about) collateral damage

This is the definition of a fanatic.

I don’t care what you think of his politics—former President Donald Trump just struck one of the most iconic poses in U.S. history.

His fist-raised salute of defiance is surely enough to win him re-election to the White House. Especially if the American people have to choose between a doddering incumbent and the man who got to his feet seconds after an assassination attempt and punched the air with blood trickling down his face.

Make no mistake, the image of a bloodstained Trump standing with one arm aloft instantly takes its place alongside the greatest photos in American history.

He was pulled to his feet by the Secret Service. Let's not pretend that a 300-pound 77-year old sprung to his feet. BTW, did he get his shoe back? The audio will also be iconic.

Cope.

Not cope. Trump may get re-elected, he'll do his best to ruin the country for four years (to the extent he survives old age), and then he'll finally be out of the picture for good. The clock is thankfully ticking on him.

Democrats are trying to remove his right to USSS protection, Myorkas is denying increases for protection, and now there's been an assassination attempt from a rooftop 150 yards from his podium. The Penn state police said that rooftop wasn't part of the perimeter-- what? It's USSS and Law Enforcement's job to CREATE an adequate perimeter. The max effective range on an AR-15 is 600 meters, and they allowed an unsecured rooftop at 150 meters? This cannot be a simple mistake. There needs to be a full investigation and prosecutions for these people who are attempting to clear the path for assassins.

Has anyone thought about making AR-15s illegal?

Oh, right. Republicans want to keep them and have more people own them.

I consider myself anti-gun, but the reflexive urge to turn this into a gun control legislation debate is silly to me. You know what the shooter did was already super illegal, right?

Banning assault rifles would be good.
If that’s a bridge too far then raising the age to 21 would have prevented this kid from killing an innocent bystander, being killed himself, and causing pain for his family.

Clearly now, after details emerged and learning of the tragic deaths and injuries to bystanders, I don’t believe it was staged but rather that it’s an awful, unacceptable event in American politics.

I will never vote for Trump. But I can have sympathy for him after this. I don’t want to see him assassinated. I just don’t want him leading our country. I want him to retire to his golf course at Mar-a-Lago and leave our country alone.

I’m certainly not a crazy, irrational leftist. I’m a DC area mom worried about the future for my kids. I don’t trust anything from Trump. So the posts on here questioning whether this was real are not all crazy trolls. It shows we don’t believe anything out of Trump until corroborated by legitimate news services. He’s a liar and a terrible human. But he shouldn’t be assassinated.

Yes, all of this.

I’d love to know what your definition of a moderate is.

1. What was the exact distance between the podium and the building? You can hear the delay between the shot and impact, which indicates the distance the bullet travelled, and the building roof was only 200-300' away. A professional sniper should be able to hit the end of an eraser at that distance.
2. There seem to be a series of two shots at 1/2 sec, followed by three rapid at 4/5 sec, and possibly another at 16 sec? Why was there a pause between 2 sec and 4 sec? The shooter had to know it was a miss.
3. What was the exact sequence and timing of who shot what? A twitter clip showed the secret service sniper held on target. Why?
4. What was the exact caliber and type of weapon fired and did it have a suppressor? I've seen .223/.308/AR-15-style posted elsewhere. But a professional sniper wouldn't use a suppressor, since it reduces muzzle velocity. One clip seemed muffled, but after thinking about it that could be explained by using professional noise cancelling devices.
5. Identity of the shooter and motivation?
6. The woman with the white phone to the left of the President in the stands is very calm with her phone video recording. Who was she and why didn't she seem phased by all of this?

If we don't know the exact calibers, none of this is real. Amiright?

Agree with all of this except I don't have sympathy for him. I have sympathy for all of us.

It doesn't actually make sense to speculate on the motives. Assassins tend to be off normal and have unusual reasoning. The last attempt on a president's life was done to impress lesbian actress Jodie Foster. It could be this kid was barely interested in politics. We don't know til we know.

jsteele wrote:Since the shooter manage to leave clues that both sides are using to claim that he is aligned with the other, let's review exactly what we know:

1) On January 21, 2021, the guy made a $15 donation through Act Blue to support the "Progressive Turnout Project". This is an organization that tries to turn out loosely-engaged Democratic voters. The organization had specifically targeted Pennsylvania.

2) In September 2021, he registered as a Republican. It is unlikely that this had anything to do with presidential politics because that race would not get going until 2023. But what was happening at that time was an important Senate race. Therefore, the shooter might have registered as a Republican in order to participate in the Republican Senate primary. But, this is speculation and we really don't know what caused him to do this. He could have just as easily wanted to participate in the primary for the local dog catcher.

At any rate, I expect that more information about the shooters motivations will be forthcoming and neither of these facts may end up meaning much.

I’ve donate to things like that on FB for friends birthdays. Doesn’t mean I really care about the fund I sent $15.

Do you even know what Pennsylvania's gun laws are? I don't. But you know nothing at all about how he got the gun and you're already convinced you know how to solve it.
