1) On January 21, 2021, the guy made a $15 donation through Act Blue to support the "Progressive Turnout Project". This is an organization that tries to turn out loosely-engaged Democratic voters. The organization had specifically targeted Pennsylvania.

2) In September 2021, he registered as a Republican. It is unlikely that this had anything to do with presidential politics because that race would not get going until 2023. But what was happening at that time was an important Senate race. Therefore, the shooter might have registered as a Republican in order to participate in the Republican Senate primary. But, this is speculation and we really don't know what caused him to do this. He could have just as easily wanted to participate in the primary for the local dog catcher.

At any rate, I expect that more information about the shooters motivations will be forthcoming and neither of these facts may end up meaning much.
