Is it? Sounds like teachers don’t think that book is a useful resource in the classroom anymore. That’s not banning. The struggle for fascists to feel like not fascists is real, I’m sure, but I also think you guys are currently beyond redemption. |
My bet is these teachers would say that Gender Queer is a wonderful book for their students. Sad that some teachers can't recognize the classics anymore. Many teachers still do, thankfully. Pay attention to what your children are being taught. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() OMG. I can't even with your moving the goalposts every time Democrats are caught being hypocrites - which is every single day. You people are such a joke. DP |
Always back to Gender Queer, never to address the hundreds of books about Black people, LGBTQ and Jewish and Muslim people the fascists have actually banned. |
Okay? “Banning” is a real word with a specific meaning. What these teachers did isn’t “banning.” What the Orwellian named “Moms for Liberty” is doing is banning. Several elected Republicans have been giddy about banning and burning books. Your party is fascist. |
Tell us the meaning of the word "ban." I don't see any difference in what these two sides are doing. One group works to "ban" sexually explicit books from school libraries. The other group seeks to ban classics like To Kill a Mockingbird from school libraries. How are these any different? |
If it weren't for double standards, democrats would have no standards at all. - Chris Plante |
Just like the Republicans. —anonymous internet poster |
Who is banning To Kill A Mockingbird from school libraries? I’ve heard of teachers who after students shared their reaction to it asked to remove it from the *required* reading list. I have not heard of these same teachers seeking to prevent students from getting access to it in school libraries. Is Moms For Liberty just trying to take books off required reading lists or are they trying to prevent students from being able to get their hands on a copy in the school library? Should be a simple question to answer. |
Meh that’s why we have a bookcase stocked with all sorts of books in our house and also why we take our kids to the library, to find other books. Do you mean to tell me you don’t??? |
Anyone who compares Hustler to the books that Moms for “Liberty” are trying to remove from school libraries and classrooms is not arguing in good faith. And clearly also not a lover of books |
DP. Parents are objecting to books that show images of sex acts in school libraries. Do you have a problem with Hustler in school libraries? Do you object to all images of sex acts in schooo libraries? What images do you think are acceptable in schools? Where is the line for you? |
You seem to be arguing against sex ed in school. Is that your ultimate goal? Have you ever read Miller v California? I do think it’s fascinating that you talk only about images rather than text. There’s a dissertation topic waiting to be written. |
These parents are objecting to Hustler in school libraries? Okay, fine. I don't know who is putting Hustler in school libraries, but I doubt you will find anyone who thinks that is fine. Please share the link to the story where someone added that to a school library. Also, please tell me more about the image of sex acts in Art Spiegelman's Maus. I couldn't find such images in my edition so perhaps you are aware of an alternate, sexually explicit edition that is ending up in school libraries across the country. Because obviously, as per your post, these parents are objecting to Maus only because the edition in their school contain images of sex acts. I'd be interesting in hearing about it and await your answer. |
Why are most of the banned books simple children’s picture books that feature Black people and gay people, no sex acts whatsoever? |
