Biden's VP?

Although any one of these could be a reasonable play, I suspect picking someone who does not represent the coastal elite will be the play. Young, telegenic, politics jibe perfectly with Joes's: my money is on Whitmer. I much prefer her to Klobuchar's dullness and poor managerial style.

That would explain why Whitmer was on The View. Her name isn't recognizable to commonfolk that don't touch politics. I was amused to see the ramp of up publicity as we get closer to Nov.

She's fantastic. I think she's the most likable of the prospects, and someone he feels he can trust, which matters a lot to Joe. Green in some key respects, but almost none of the prospects have much in the way of foreign policy experience. If he has a full term to mentor her, she could do well.

As far as appeal to suburban women and rust belt more broadly, seems like she'd be a great pick. She's impressive. I also like that she seems to have AA officials front and center in her administration. The LT Gov is AA and Joneigh Khaldun is doing a fantastic job with the HHS presentations at the daily briefings.

Isn't this a little exclusionary?

I think soul of the Democratic Party would be accurate. Look it's an advocacy piece that lacks nuance. The main point is certainly on Biden's radar, it's just that there are other factors to consider as well.

Not really. When you think of the contributions, largely anonymous and/or ignored, made by AA women, as well as their work moving Civil Rights and women’s rights forward, plus a dozen other things, it’s accurate. It doesn’t bother me.

OP-ed--Black women are insisting on a black woman.

Here's the problem with that thought. Black women are going to vote for Biden. There is no way that they are going to vote for Trump. They might pull a Bernie Bros move and "protest" by not voting, but that wouldn't be wise as votes like that only increase the chances that you'll reelect the most racist POTUS that we've had in decades.

Biden is the challenger and even in these difficult times, the incumbent has an advantage. Right now, there are many signs that give each an advantage and some that show them neck-and-neck, so it is pretty close. Biden needs to convert the independent and moderate voters that are at risk to vote for Trump. He needs to ensure that voters who may vote for Trump either stay home or vote for him. Having a VP candidate like Lujan Grisham or Cortez Masto court the Latino vote which is very much in play for both sides. Klobuchar and Whitmer court the Midwest, which are also in play.

While I understand that black women want validation for their years of devoted support, right now, that is not politically wise.

BW writers pretending they demand anything should sit down somewhere and be quiet.

Everyone knows that the overwhelming majority will vote for the Democrat and nothing needs to be done to appeal to or appease them.

A sprinkling will vote third party, a handful Republican but not enough to scare the Democrats into thinking that they have to consider their issues, needs and desires.

The Democrats are right to ignore them entirely and work on winning over people who they don't have in the bag.

An op-ed written by one far-left black activist. I wouldn't consider that to represent mainstream AA opinion.

This.

Not all blacks are idiotic.

Six Black women signed on to this opinion piece. Not one far-left black activist.

?????It was written by SIX Black women. Did you even read it?

Who cares whether one woman or six women wrote it? It's overly simplistic as several PPs have pointed out.

Not all blacks are as idiotic as those Six Black women signing that thing.

Speaking of women -- shouldn't Biden be courting Latinas?

Yes. Particularly as they are a shrinking minority. Hispanic and Asian women are the future

I like Whitmer a lot, but I wonder if Tammy Duckworth isn't a pick few could object to?

No sweetheart. It's the Biden supporters who, in the end, will be "really disappointed."

Not a previous poster, but let’s not get nasty here. Whoever the nominee is, let’s support them to beat trump. Biden is my first choice but I will wholeheartedly support Bernie Sanders with all my time, effort, and financial contributions if he wins the nomination. Beating trump is the top priority and we must be united.

You will be supporting Sanders with 90% of you money via a tax rate hike if he is elected.

Val Demings looks good in my book. Centrist, former police chief of Orlando and a social worker, two term congress woman, only 63, carries a 9 MM, rides a Harley, regular churchgoer and is from Florida (swing state). She was brought up in a 2 room house with 7 siblings. Her husband is former FBI and a cop, they have 3 grown sons and several grandchildren. ...Someone people can relate to.
