I have been looking into this story since Friday. I have contacts in Venezuela who shared the most heart-wrenching video I have seen in my life of a woman devastated because she had been deported without her child.

It turns out I had already heard about this family, who came to the US last year and requested asylum (through the legal channels for inquiring minds!) in the following April 1st ABC news article: https://abcnews.go.com/US/family-venezuelan-m...r/story?id=120381541

The US sent the Maiker Espinoza Escalonal to CECOT, kept the mother Yorelys Bernal detained, and put the baby in foster care. I am incensed that the Biden administration started this horror show but the escalation by Trump is horrific. We have now deported the mother and KEPT the two-year-old!! She has no contact with the family who has her baby.

I honestly didn't know whether or not I could believe this atrocity but DHS has confirmed it. Of course they have put their dishonest/we are saviors/demonize the imigrant spin on it:

Even if the DHS accusations were believable (which they absolutely are NOT), even if there had been some kind of due process (there has NOT), this is an atrocity.
This is kidnapping.
This goes against common sense and any sense of morality. If you deport the mother -- and the mother implores you to give her back her child -- there is only one thing to do.

The US are officially kidnappers. We are officially as bad as you can get.

The father was the lead plaintiff suing not to go to Guantanamo Bay. Now it seems like he might have been better off there.

What do they have on him since from when he entered over a year ago in May 22, 2024, in El Paso, Texas and requested asylum he has been in custody? That seem so strange since most people with children were not detained or only briefly detained under Biden.

Just read his declaration and he says the mother of the child has been detained since October of 2024 because they have been having weekly in person visits with the child. Removing the child from the parents happened under Biden. Poor kid.

1. They are required to assess each asylum claim independently. In the other thread some are mad that a 2 year was sent back with her mother. Here we're mad that the child was not.

2. Both parents were held under Biden and it was a complete free for all under Biden so the parents must have been really bad.

3. The man's own sister said he was an economic migrant, not here for asylum:

The Biden administration AND copycat Trum administration used tattoos as screening tool. Both abslolutely assenine.

You are wrong about Biden letting everyone in. In fact, the Biden administration were the ones who started the dumb, let's jail everyone with a tattoo policy. (Decried by every Venezuelan gang experted as misguided.) Many of the men, whom DHS sent to El Salvador, were in detention because of their tattoos under Biden.

It is true, though, that Biden followed the Constution and let them people see a judge. And the judge could then determine if there was anything more than a tattoo as evidence. So, yes, Biden started a stupid screening process but at least he believed in due process.

Shaking my head that anyone is quoting DHS as if what they say is a fact. Do you also quote Pete Hegseth? Stephen Miller? ?!?!?!

I agree with you (DP.) I am fine with US Citizen children being deported with their non-citizen parents if there is no citizen relative/friend that the parents want to give custody to.

But having a citizen child is not a license to stay in the US illegally. I’m tired of people crying “but my child is a citizen!” Okay, send them to live other citizens then because you don’t have status to stay. And I am glad that practice is being ended, even though I don’t approve of separating them.
