I read last night-- I think in The NY Times-- that Harry and Meghan found out that their discussions with Charles about stepping back had been leaked to one of the tabloids, and it about to run the story. They felt forced to put out their own statement sooner than they wanted so they shape the story themselves.
The Queen's or Charles' people have really screwed this up. |
It wasn't the Queen's or Charles' people who made that website. |
Nope, not buying it. She’s a shitty mother. No mother in their right mind leaves their newborn, first born child on a different continent multiple times before they’re even 8 months old, least of all to watch a tennis game! We know where her priorities are and they’re most definitely not with her child. |

This is from Harper's, but the story is appearing in other outlets as well.
"Senior aides reveal that conversations about the couple’s future plans and ambitions had taken place internally “on all levels” for several months in the run-up to their so-called “bombshell” on January 8. It was information that the couple had planned to hold back from the media until logistics had been further fleshed out among households, but after their agenda was leaked to British tabloid The Sun, “they felt they had been cornered,” says a source close to the couple. “It was a case of act now or lose control of something they had spent a long time working on.” https://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a30457589/meghan-markle-prince-harry-stepping-down-details/ It goes on to say-- "Surprised, yes, but the royal reaction, says a high-ranking palace aide, was “far from the dramatic emotional response described by some—nobody was ‘incandescent with rage’ and nobody is about to punish anyone. The speed at which this now needs to be dealt with is not ideal, but the plans themselves are not a problem. This is not a ‘crisis,’ it’s a case of helping the couple reach their goal.” It seems the leaking aides realized how badly they screwed this up for the Queen and are now trying to clean up their mess. |
And let’s ask ourselves why the kid wasn’t even left with a blood relative (his maternal grandmother)? Are you telling me Doria couldn’t possibly make herself available to watch her grandchild while this dramatically important and daring escape is made? Or maybe it’s that their relationship is all for optics as many people have said (because MM is incapable of healthy relationships) and Archie is being used as a pawn. They’re really starting to show they’re true colors now. |
Queen Elizabeth frequently left her kids. Her relationship with them was more formal than motherly |
I’m not seeing how anyone messed this up by leaking it early if everyone was basically in agreement anyhow. It reads like a temper tantrum thrown by Harry because he wasn’t getting what he wanted fast enough which actually seems like par for the course with these two at this point. |
An 8 mo isn’t a newborn. If you can’t do make your point without absurd exaggeration, perhaps your premise is flawed. |

Here's one more bit from that Harper's article that explains some of their rationale, and how the Royal Rota system works--
"One change the couple have been keen to tackle is finally taking control of the coverage surrounding their work, which is currently ruled by the self-governed Royal Rota—a pool system that allows only British newspapers and tabloids to gain up-close access to their official engagements (other outlets are forced to remain in the dark). “The Cartel,” as the couple have come to know the group of royal correspondents, have been a longtime sticking point for the couple. “They saw the current model as outdated and in desperate need of change,” says a source, who notes that previous attempts to change the current system had been repeatedly met with dead ends. “It became clear that [for all types of] press, including foreign media and digital outlets, to have access to their work, they would have to self-fund their own engagements.” |
You have no understanding of how the tabloids twist everything Meghan does and what they would have done with this news if they'd broken it first. You just fall for all the nastiness hook, line, and sinker. Read your own posts. |
That all sounds very credible. It’s been clear for a long time that there were leaks (likely from Will & Kate’s camp) coming out to undermine Harry and Meghan. I suspect the Queen knows it also, which is why Will was the one ordered to fix it with Harry. |
It sounds like the idea of close friendships is pretty foreign to you. |
| They also want to be able to work privately and accept money and gifts, which is currently not allowed. But there's a good reason for that. And these two aren't demonstrating the maturity and wisdom to be the first royals to successfully navigate it. |
