Haven't read this thread so apologies if this has already been posted, but this should give anyone a good idea why they're leaving:

Allow me to summarize the sentiment of his official Royal photographer: "How dare they leave! He gave so much to us! He always did such a great job for us! The public loved him! They still will! Even if he's unhappy, so what! He should just suck it up and do it anyway, just like his dad did when we killed his wife! It's all Harry's wretched wife's fault! That Meghan! She did this to him! The public here HATES her now! The should come back! How selfish of them to want a life! How selfish! They gave so much to us! How dare they leave! I know he's the dumbest kid on the planet, but this is not the time to think for yourself! Come back! Raise the kids here! Who cares if your wife is miserable! Who cares if you're miserable too! And your kids! We own them! Come back! You have NO RIGHT to privacy or happiness! And your wife SUCKS! Come back!"

Oh please. This is a mother who left her 4 month old at home to leave the continent to watch a tennis game and then leaves her 8 month old again to go to another continent to make an announcement. She’s clearly not very attached to him. I don’t believe for a second that all of the helicopter moms on DCUM would support this.

Please. You’ve never spent a weekend away from your baby? She was gone for 3 days. That’s it. Unless you’ve never spent any time away from your baby for a weeks trip or work travel - which is what this was - you need to sit down and shut up.

Um, you do realize the ENTIRE POINT of the Royal Family is to make money, right? There is no such thing as a person who is, by bloodline, superior to anyone else. The whole thing is branding and promotion. You get this, right? They literally discuss "The Firm" relative to its ROI for the UK. And H&M were expected to revitalize the brand. They are doing just that. This is nothing but a midseason plot twist in Keeping Up With The BRF. They were the Kardashians before the Kardashians made it cool. They were the original "famous for thing" vapid celebrities. The ONLY difference is that so far, Americans are smart enough to keep our celebrities away from our political process. They should thank MM for livening up the show a bit.

Charles wants to streamline the royal family to just his direct family. William will probably want to do the same thing when he is on the throne. Why should Harry hang out and do the work and then get kicked to the curb?

When two people who come from highly dysfunctional families connect and want to change things going forward, it's a beautiful thing.

I hope that Harry and Meghan can create a healthier family by distancing themselves from at least some of the drama. Good for them.
