Does that mean you are crossing the Rubicon with Arlington or you will be trying to a join a different team?

This update adds YouthSoccerRankings scores as of October 29th, and has the first look back at the October tournaments … as well as the first look at the November events.

As far as the Bethesda Premier Cup goes, there were 32 U11 girls teams last year and 28 U12 girls teams this year. If my counting is correct, eight teams are repeat offenders from U11 to U12:

Pipeline SC Pre-Academy
Baltimore Union SC Elite
Bethesda SC RL
SYC Blue (was LMVSC Red at U11)
Baltimore Union Select
Salisbury United SC Gold
MSI Academy White
Bethesda SC White

I think "only" two teams (both from VA) have defected from BPC to NCC … Loudoun Red and FPYC. Did the other 20 or so U11 teams just say "Nevemore, nevermore?"

There are three VA teams are going to BPC that did not play there last year (GFR, HERN, and SYC's B).

Hey FPYC Parent,

I didn't see your girls listed in the NCSL divisions. Is your team playing this season, if there is a season of course?

I was raised here and I've always maintained MD teams are much stronger than VA teams. I grew up in Fairfax Co btw and did play on a VA team #1 in the US---but as I have seen with neices and nephews and my own kids---MD teams are MUCH tougher. My kids played an EDP schedule with almost all MD teams and it was much tougher than the other leagues they played in prior.

Perhaps that perception is because northern VA has so many more players playing at levels above EDP than MD does.

Agree with this. MD has fewer non-EDP high level options than VA. VA also has a very big middle tier that ends up in CCL/EDP/Div1/2 NCSL. So the VA teams who see MD EDP teams are at a talent disadvantage by default.

I don’t think it matters one way or another. A U13 (2008) player on a MD team does not make her better than a player on VA team and vice versa. The consensus is that a team is good because it has less numbers of average players or composed of more good players at every position.

The parents for our 2008 girls teams have opted against playing NCSL games this fall. I believe the club polled the travel teams for their interest in playing league games this season. I think I only saw six FPYC teams being placed in divisions for the fall (four boys teams and two girls teams, down from 15 or so teams from Fall 2019 and what would have been Spring 2020). I don't know if this is normal, but there also seemed to be fewer 2008 girls teams on the accepted teams list. It's probably too early to say if the change is pandemic-related or the result of the natural drop-off with the move to U13 full-field play.

Our coach is hoping to schedule a number of local scrimmages in lieu of league games over the next three months. Doing so should give us a little more control over how far we have to travel ... and we won't have to go beyond Fairfax County borders.

Hopefully, if things go well this fall, the team will be back to competitive play in Spring 2021. Good luck to all teams pressing on this upcoming season.

...

Don't worry, I'm still updating the spreadsheet in case significant games are played. I just haven't posted the updates to Google Sheets. Other than a few tournaments in February or early March, there aren't too many big changes that I've observed in the rankings.

...

As far as overall competitiveness of 2008 MD girls teams versus VA counterparts, I believe that there is more dilution of talent on this side of the Potomac. More leagues or more teams ... or a combination of both. When every club claims to be elite (and convinces parents with those claims), no one is.

Good for you and your team. I’m sure what I’m saying now won’t be popular here but taking a break from Fall soccer won’t kill anyone, but playing in this pandemic can be a health risk with a potential for permanent damage.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that you totally didn't disband, GA is a good coach. However, I'd be surprised if some of the girls didn't try to find teams that are trying to play this Fall. Some kids (and parents) just want to play regardless of the team. Anyway...good luck with the Fall.

Thanks FPYCp. My understanding is that VIVA is not fielding an 08G team.

I noticed that 2008 MSI Academy White stayed with NCLS while the MSI Academy Green team moved to EDP.
