Federal judge rules that admissions changes at nation’s top public school discriminate against Asian

Board of Supervisors must be exposed to the benefits of working in a "diverse" environment where they will be exposed to different ethnicities and cultures that is Fairfax County and that will make them a better human being and better government officials.

We need Asian Diversity & Inclusion Officer for the Fairfax County appointed immediately to promote Asians in ALL aspects of the County government. We need 20% Asians on the school board. We need 20% of Asian judges in the county. We need 20% Asian judges in the county.

We need 20% of top positions in the FCPS. We need Asian principal for TJ not some fumbling fool who cannot think for herself.

The difficulty with a post like this is that it makes some good points, but it also has a lot of nonsense.

I would be curious to know if any Asians even applied for the position of TJ Principal when Dr. Glazer left.

But again, this poster is referencing quotas. Pro-TJ-reform advocates have never specified that they believe that a certain percentage of spots at TJ should go to certain groups. What we have advocated for is an admissions process that creates greater opportunities for access to groups that have historically been shut out of the school.

Ok then. We can do the same things for Asians.

I believe you think this but plenty of folks on your side don't including folks on the school board who were caught red handed.

In addition, 20% of the FCPS teachers must be Asian to properly reflect the student population. 20% of the County employees must be Asians to reflect the demographics of the County.

20% of the County contracts and grants must go to Asians and Asian groups. It is not equitable that virtually 0% goes to Asians and Asian groups.

If you mean advocating for an admissions process that creates greater opportunities for access to Asian groups that have historically been shut out of the school, that is what the new admissions changes did. But they've been struck down.

All the other areas aside from TJ.

The county is desperate for teachers, are you saying that they are turning away Asian applicants?

Great idea. Maybe offer more scholarships for education degrees? Leadership programs for elected positions?

Ok. Start reaching out to Asian applicants for those positions and contracts.

Lol, I left the DMV area when leaving for college years, years ago. It’s mental health issue. These threads sometimes reminds me what I was thinking when I left that place behind.

No, you clearly didn't leave this place behind.

(But yes, we could tell that you aren't local and that you aren't interested in improving TJ or Fairfax.)

If you want to apply quotas ensuring that the percentage of Asian Americans in various positions reflects the countywide population, are you willing to apply that logic to the percentage of Asian American students at TJ?
