Are Univ Utah and Univ of Wisconsin roughly in the same tier academically?

D wants a colder, outdoorsy college that’s fun. Pretty sure these are both the same for academics, both okay at business and law and I can’t think of any other departments which actually matters. Also looking at U Vermont and Colby College in Maine.

Law and business school are the only departments that matter when choosing undergrad?

That logic likely isn't getting you admitted to Wisconsin.

+1 Both not T25 and both don’t have T14 law or business schools. Same tier for anyone who wants to make a living out of college.

Wisconsin boosters have officially replaced NEU on DCUM as the "target". Love it!

How does the ranking of the law school impact undergrads' prospects?

I only know two kids who went to Utah and both transferred out after freshman year. It's very in-state heavy, compared to Wisconsin, and Utah is its own culture.

U Colorado
Colorado College
Bates
Lawrence University

Except Wisconsin hasn’t been trying to scam students like the private NEU. In fact, I’m pretty sure Wisconsin has never spent money on advertising to high schoolers like NEU, Michigan and USC

The Indiana trial balloon burst too quickly.

I have a feeling there's an acolyte of the "no such thing as bad publicity" school behind this.

This is not a question, right? Utah lets in anyone with a heartbeat. Plus while SLC is a quaint city, it's hardly cosmopolitan and it lies in the center of a north-south Mormon island (Brigham City/Ogden to Provo) separated by mountains and a desert (and 100s of miles of highway) from any other city, with Reno, Denver, and Flagstaff being the closest. Park City and the other resorts are nice, and pretty close to the Utah campus, but you'd need a pretty durable car to be making the hour trip up the mountains regularly.
