Are Univ Utah and Univ of Wisconsin roughly in the same tier academically?

About 1/3 of Univ. of Utah student's identify as Mormon (Latter Day Saints) and about half grew up in the faith. Only 12% are in the student organization/youth college program for Mormons at Un. of Utah. Those are going to be the most religious students who are probably only dating other Mormons, not drinking coffee or alcohol, etc.

You are confusing University of Utah with Brigham Young University (BYU) which is 99% Mormon. It is an hour south of Univ. of Utah in Provo, Utah.

I didn’t know that Michigan spends huge amounts money on advertising? Please cite your sources.

They’re always at Bronx high school of science college fair advertising Also at Sidwell friends college fair. Only a handful of kids choose Wisconsin from these schools. I suppose, given their location, that is an incredible fact in itself. Still, dozens choose Michigan and USC, despite the small academic difference between all three of these schools.

Probably because teens would rather live in LA or have vacationed in Michigan and loved it. The hell is there to do in Wisconsin?

The university is on a lake with sailing, kayaking etc, add to it the miles of running and biking paths around campus and across Madison. Major bands and college bands all include Madison on their tour stops. Major theater for traveling plays and musicals, and that is all within walking distance of campus.

They are not very selective at all. When you admit almost half of those who apply that's just the reality. Same thing with yield. When your yield is under 30% that tells you that the school is considered a backup.

I don't know why this dose of reality makes some people mad. You can get a great outcome from either school. Go on to law school, nursing school, become a teacher, work as an engineer.

Wisconsin is a "national" school. Utah isn't. Hiring managers know this.

There's really no comparison. Wisconsin has had 20 Nobel Laureates, is classified as a top producer of Fulbright grants, and ranks 16th in number of alums winning MacArthur Genius grants. It is a T-50. I am an academic, and I don't know anyone who would consider Utah and Wisconsin comparable.

Since law school is a grad program, the quality of the university's law school is irrelevant if the student is thinking about applying to law school down the road. In addition, undergrad prestige plays little role in law school admission. For the purpose of law school admission, Utah and Wisconsin are equivalent.

Bro if that’s true then Wisconsin would be equal to UVA academically. If we’re just going off of academic programs than Wisco has the same or better rankings as UVA’s academic departments. But to say such a thing would be an absurdity. Business and Law makes you elite, therefore UVA is better.

"Wisco"? - UW or Wisconsin. No one calls it Wisco who lives or goes there.

If one doesn’t live or go there, they don’t call it anything because it’s not even on the radar of such people.

It’s not a name brand institution like Harvard or Berkeley or countless others. It’s fine. It’s a good school. It’s just not the level of school that its boosters here at DCUM seem to think …

You must be joking.

What kind of people have never heard of a college within the top 50 at USNews?

The clowning on schools outside the top 10 is just getting sad and lazy.

Agreed. Plenty of kids attend Utah that are not Mormon - again - outdoorsy kids that want to ski and climb and get a quality education for not alot of money (in-state residency after first year so in-state tuition for Sophomore/Junior/Senior year) and don't want to stress about craxy application process.
