This is dumb but not surprising—-
As at a typical Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda, prayers were given for the living and the dead, the infirm and the Church. But on this day, the reader ended the prayer of the faithful with some unusual words: “We pray for the intention of Donald J. Trump, for whom this Mass is being offered today,” a parishioner remembered hearing at the late-summer gathering. https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/community/religion/catholic-mass-for-trump-bethesda-maryland-UYOSCIBZVNDBBBL72BSI2M5C2E/ Meanwhile both maternal deaths and abortions rose post-Dobbs so even if you disregard his waffling on abortion and every other thing Trump does that is inconsistent with Catholic doctrine (which is a lot as the Pope has noted) I still don’t get why you think he is “pro-life”. |
| Wording's a bit vague, and I'm not Catholic, but I think almost any a theistic religious person can agree to pray for Donald Trump at soul. No matter what you think of him, he's a major figure at the moment, and the course of his life affects all of us. Trusting God with a prayer to move Trump to a better position is a religiously a good thought. |

I pray he doesn't get shot again. That is truly messed up.
Sick people out there! |
I am a Catholic and unless he is on his deathbed it’s against the rules and since Catholics are all about rules whoever sanctioned this should be immediately removed. |
Ditto Republicans with guns are sick people. |
| That guy needs all the prayers he can get. |

TBH all Christians should be praying for Trump.
Praying for God to give him wisdom, open his eyes and change his heart. |
Great pray for him but don’t dedicate a mass to a political figure in a catholic mass. You can dedicate it to both candidates or neither. |

"Special moment" is a loose one. "whoever sanctioned this should be immediately removed" How Christlike is that? |

Catholics have rules
The USCCB Office of General Counsel (202-541-3300) Forbids what was done Yes it’s Christian like to protect the integrity of a church who refused to remove priests when it was beyond clear they belonged in jail not in a church with children. |
I'm Catholic, at a more sane parish. Like about half of American Catholics who vote, I will vote for Harris. I have never voted for Trump, and never will. When Trump was President, we prayed for him every Sunday, because praying for the leaders is something you do. But in my mind, that was praying for him to be given wisdom, for his hand to be guided for good. That's very different from praying for someone's "intentions" which is basically praying for what he's praying for. My assumption is that, if Trump prays at all, he's praying to be elected, and I'm not praying for that. I'll also say that while I believe abortion should stay legal, I think that Trump's intention when he was stacking the supreme court had nothing to do with reducing abortion, and everything to do with "owning the libs" and essentially buying prolife votes. So, even if I believed that the state should limit abortions, I still wouldn't have prayed for Trump's "intentions". |
What. Unbelievable |
Praying for Trump while president is not against the rules. Praying for 1 candidate during an election is against the rules of the church. It’s plain and simple. They also can’t pray for Harris. Trump defunded every program that helped poor mothers so yea he’s not prolife , but that’s not even the point. The church has rules and guidelines and the parish should remove the person who broke the rules. |
